Oklahoma Parents Face First-Degree Murder Charges Following Toddler’s Fatal Dog Attack
An Oklahoma couple is now facing elevated murder accusations following the fatal mauling of their 2-year-old daughter by the family's dog.According to a press release issued by the Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office on Monday, December 8, Darci Lambert and Jorden McGuire now face first-degree murder charges along with two counts of animal cruelty related to their child’s demise.
As reported by People, when Lambert, 24, and McGuire, 34, were initially taken into custody, they were charged with second-degree murder. As of Wednesday at publication time, it remained unknown whether Lambert or McGuire had formally entered pleas or secured legal representation. In a statement, Oklahoma County District Attorney Vicki Zemp Behenna described the incident as an “unbearably tragic situation.” She added that the child's death resulted from "Lambert and McGuire’s total indifference to their child’s health, safety, and well-being, and their inability to safeguard her despite recognizing the existing risk."Recalling Todd and Julie Chrisley's Legal Battle Over Bank Fraud and Tax EvasionOn November 18, Oklahoma City police were dispatched to the residence after receiving a report about a child who wasn't breathing. The district attorney’s office confirmed that upon arrival, officers discovered the deceased girl inside the home, bearing “horrific injuries” consistent with an animal attack.According to prosecutors, four dogs — three reportedly showing signs of malnourishment — were removed from the premises by Oklahoma City Animal Welfare. Two bearded dragons were also taken from the property. At the initial announcement of the arrests, Oklahoma City Police Staff Sgt. Dillon Quirk informed People that investigators determined "the child was left alone with the animal in that room for a considerable duration before her death was discovered." Following the investigation into the toddler's death, authorities concluded that a "murder arrest" was the most fitting action.Officials allege that Lambert and McGuire neglected their parental duty to protect their child, allowing her to reside in a perilous setting alongside the underfed dogs. Evidence uncovered by investigators also indicated that the child had previously suffered an attack by the same animal.Prosecutors stated that the charges against Lambert and McGuire were escalated, citing the “appalling specifics of the case” revealed by the new findings. The child's identity was later confirmed as Locklynn Rose McGuire. After her death, family members initiated a GoFundMe fundraiser to cover memorial costs.A Look Back at Ryan and Mackenzie Edwards' Tumultuous Relationship on Teen MomThe fundraiser page described Locklynn as "pure light.” It continued, "She possessed a gentle and inquisitive nature, brimming with joy — a little girl whose smile could illuminate even the darkest moments. She was deeply loved and gave love in return. Her sudden and tragic loss has devastated our entire family."The post added, “While we grapple with an experience no family should ever face, we are collecting funds to assist with funeral and memorial expenses. Every contribution, regardless of size, holds immense value for us. If donating isn't possible, sharing this link provides equal support. We thank everyone for their prayers, messages, and acts of kindness as we pay tribute to the wonderful life of Locklynn Rose.”
