Prince William Continues Diana's Legacy by Introducing Prince George to The Passage

Prince William introduced his 12-year-old son, Prince George, to the work of The Passage, a charity organization – a moment echoing his own visit with his mother, Princess Diana, over three decades ago.

“Sharing the experience of The Passage with Prince George – and meeting Claudette,” read a post on the royal Instagram account from Saturday, December 20, acknowledging the organization’s chef. “A sincere thank you to all for your dedicated efforts throughout the year and for consistently fueling a mutual dedication to preventing and resolving homelessness across the UK.”

The Prince of Wales, 43, and Prince George collaborated in preparing a celebratory Christmas meal for those supported by The Passage on Tuesday, December 16.

“This occasion represented the first time Prince William brought Prince George to The Passage, a location of profound personal importance to him,” explained a description accompanying a YouTube video. “It was at this very place that his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, took Prince William when he was 11, an experience that profoundly shaped The Prince’s enduring commitment to addressing homelessness and ultimately led to the establishment of Homewards, his initiative proving that ending homelessness is achievable.”

Prince William Reflects on Diana's Significant Influence

Diana, who tragically passed away in 1997 following a car accident, previously visited The Passage with William in December 1993 to assist in preparing a holiday meal. At that time, William signed the visitor’s book directly beneath his mother’s signature.

George continued this tradition on Saturday, writing his first name and the date in the guestbook, positioned directly below the signatures of Diana and William.

In addition to George, William and wife Princess Kate Middleton are also parents to Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. The Prince of Wales has consistently ensured that memories of his mother are shared with Kate, 43, and their children.

“Becoming a parent is a truly transformative experience,” William stated in a 2020 BBC documentary. “I believe that when you navigate a deeply challenging life event – such as the loss of my mother at a young age – your emotions resurface with great intensity as you enter a new stage of life.”

He further explained, “There isn’t always someone to offer guidance, and I certainly found it incredibly overwhelming at times. Kate and I provide support for one another, navigating these moments together and growing and learning as a couple.”

Each March, when Mother’s Day is celebrated in the United Kingdom, George and his siblings create handmade cards to honor their late “Granny,” Diana.

“This year’s Mother’s Day will be different again,” William shared in an Instagram post from 2021. “Many of us will be separated from our loved ones, but we look forward to a future time when we can embrace our mothers once more.”

He added, “For those grieving, today may be particularly difficult. Every year on Mother’s Day, George, Charlotte and Louis create cards in remembrance of their Granny, Diana, for William. Regardless of your situation, we are keeping you in our thoughts this Mother’s Day.”
