Queen Camilla's Weight Remark to Actress Sparks Royal Debate
Queen Camilla has caused a stir with remarks she recently directed at a UK actress.
During the festivities for King Charles’ 77th birthday, held at Cyfarthfa Castle on Friday, November 14, the 78-year-old Camilla encountered numerous public figures, among them Gavin & Stacey actress Ruth Jones.
A video recording, obtained by the Daily Mail, shows the Queen extending a cordial welcome to Jones, 59, followed by an observation about her physique.
“You've shed a significant amount of weight, haven't you?” she inquired as she shook Jones’ hand.

The performer — who seemed to interpret the comment favorably — replied, “Indeed, I have, thank you! I’ve indeed slimmed down somewhat!”
Following the video's online appearance, certain royal observers criticized the Queen’s remarks.
“An inappropriate remark to make to someone you don't know,” a user posted on X. A different individual commented, “How impolite of Camilla to bring up a celebrity’s weight publicly! Disrespectful!”
Conversely, some individuals did not find offense in the Queen’s comments directed at Jones.
“I would genuinely appreciate it if someone acknowledged my weight loss, as it requires considerable effort, and recognition is pleasant,” a user shared on X. “I believe it's less kind to point out significant weight gain.”

Another observer shifted attention to Jones, remarking, “Ruth appears splendid and in such good health.”
Jones is widely recognized across the U.K. for her role opposite James Corden in Gavin & Stacey. The program ran from 2007 to 2010. Additionally, she featured in over 50 installments of the television series Stella.
Her most recent appearance was in the Gavin & Stacey 2024 Christmas special, for which Jones received the 2025 BAFTA Award for Best Female Comedy Performance.
The performer had previously discussed her weight reduction of almost 60 lbs. during a December 2024 podcast conversation. She credited her achievement to “aversion therapy” and techniques taught by hypnotist Paul McKenna, which assisted her in eliminating chocolate from her diet.

“While I dislike saying I ‘struggled’ with my weight, I have consistently contended with it throughout my life,” she stated on the “Table Manners” podcast hosted by Jessie and Lennie Ware. “For as long as I can recall, I have never been slender.”
Despite her initial “slight skepticism” regarding McKenna’s methods, she discovered them to be effective for her.
“It was effective. It proved entirely successful,” she recounted. “I refrained from eating chocolate for half a decade. I couldn’t tolerate its aroma.”
At the birthday festivities, Camilla and Jones had the opportunity to interact with diverse attendees, such as performers Steve Speirs and Richard Harrington, TikTok personality Lewis Leigh, and Love Island celebrity Liam Reardon.
As reported on the royal family’s official Instagram account, attendees serenaded Charles with “happy birthday” before he sliced a cake fashioned to resemble Cyfarthfa Castle.
