Queen Elizabeth II's Devastation Over Prince Andrew's Downfall Revealed by Royal Experts
The late Queen Elizabeth II would undoubtedly have held strong opinions regarding the persistent controversy involving her son, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
“It’s akin to a classical tragedy; he has been divested of all his privileges and subjected to public shame,” royal commentator Phil Dampier conveyed to Hello! Magazine in a piece released on Tuesday, November 4. “The departed Queen would be utterly devastated to witness the fate of the son frequently described as her preferred child.”
Dampier, whose royal family reporting spans over twenty years, expressed “complete astonishment” upon the announcement that Andrew’s princely title had been revoked.
“This is an exceptionally severe action,” he continued. “Such circumstances are entirely without precedent, marking a remarkable downfall for an individual who, at birth, stood second in succession to the crown and later returned from the Falklands conflict as a distinguished military figure.”
Princess Anne Is ‘Fed Up’ With Prince Andrew Amid Scandals, Expert Says
On Thursday, October 30, King Charles III revealed he initiated the official procedure to remove his brother Andrew’s title and removed the erstwhile Duke of York from his residence at Royal Lodge in Windsor.
“Prince Andrew will henceforth be referred to as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” a communiqué from Buckingham Palace stated at that juncture. “His occupancy agreement for Royal Lodge has, until this point, afforded him legal grounds to remain living there.”
The announcement clarified that “official notification” was given to Andrew, indicating he “will relocate to different private lodgings.” Us has learned he is expected to move to Charles’s Sandringham Estate.
“These disciplinary actions are considered essential, despite his ongoing denials of the accusations leveled against him,” the communiqué further stated. “Their Majesties desire to emphasize that their thoughts and profound empathy have always been, and will persist, with the victims and individuals who have endured any and all types of mistreatment.”
Charles’s determination followed Andrew’s continued prominence in news reports due to his association with the deceased billionaire sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. In 2019, the late Virginia Giuffre asserted that she engaged in a sexual encounter with Andrew in 2001 while she was still a minor. Giuffre maintained that her acquaintance with Andrew was facilitated by Epstein and his collaborator Ghislaine Maxwell.
Why Was Prince Andrew Stripped of His Titles? What Led to the King's Move
Andrew has consistently refuted all accusations made by Giuffre. She filed a lawsuit against Andrew for sexual abuse in 2021, leading to an out-of-court settlement the subsequent year. Giuffre passed away by suicide at 41 this past April. Her autobiography, Nobody’s Girl, released posthumously last month, presented additional claims against Andrew and Epstein.
Dampier’s recent observations echo sentiments previously expressed exclusively to Us by fellow royal chronicler Christopher Andersen.
Andersen reiterated that Andrew was the departed queen’s “favored” offspring, a truth that held “until the final moments” of her existence. “She exercised every possible means to safeguard him,” the writer further stated.
“This would undeniably have been an agonizing choice for the king — considering he is his brother,” Andersen commented last week. “Charles must comprehend the extent to which expelling Andrew from the royal institution would have pained his mother, the late sovereign. I cannot conceive of Elizabeth II ever taking such drastic action — truly never.”
