Queen Elizabeth's Corgis Caught in Royal Shuffle Amidst Prince Andrew's Demotion

A multitude of questions persist regarding Queen Elizabeth II’s corgis following Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s loss of his royal designation.

A recent report by British journalist Rob Shuter asserted that King Charles III is “preparing to appropriate” the canines from Andrew, 65. The #ShuterScoop Substack newsletter claimed that Charles does not believe Andrew is “competent” to care for the young dogs.

Charles reportedly feels that the dogs, named Muick and Sandy, require “a more stable residence — and superior judgment surrounding them,” according to Shuter’s publication. A senior court official reportedly stated that Elizabeth would “never” have left her dogs with Andrew’s former spouse, Sarah Ferguson, “and Charles is exceptionally aware of this fact,” Shuter conveyed.

Us Weekly has gathered that the corgis will remain within the royal household.

A pertinent query: What will be the location of Queen Elizabeth's Corgis during Charles's Coronation?

Charles divested Andrew of his princely rank and removed him from Royal Lodge late last month, after the former Duke of York’s association with the late billionaire sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein continued to garner media attention.

“Prince Andrew shall henceforth be referred to as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor,” a declaration from Buckingham Palace stated on October 30. “His lease for Royal Lodge has, until this point, afforded him legal protection to reside there.”

The statement went on to say, “Formal notice has now been issued to relinquish the lease, and he will relocate to alternative private accommodation. These punitive measures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding his ongoing denials of the allegations against him.”

Buckingham Palace’s communication concluded with a rather direct message.

“Their Majesties wish to clarify that their thoughts and profoundest sympathies have always been, and shall continue to be, with the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” they communicated.

Subsequent to the announcement of Andrew’s revised status within the royal family, the U.K.’s The Independent received a statement from Buckingham Palace concerning the canines' future.

“The corgis will stay with the family,” they shared — without offering additional details.

The dogs were placed with Andrew and Ferguson, 66, following Elizabeth II’s passing in September 2022. Ferguson mentioned earlier this year that the departed monarch communicates through her pets.

“I am looking after her dogs. I have her corgis, so each morning they enter and bark, ‘Woof, woof,’ and such, and I am certain it is her speaking to me,” Ferguson shared in May, as per a video snippet distributed via Instagram.

Exploring the Remarkable Existence of Queen Elizabeth II’s Corgis

Ferguson proceeded with her discourse on the late queen’s enduring legacy.

“The true essence is that I had the immense privilege of being her daughter-in-law. That, as you know, is truly significant,” she expressed. “While driving here, I noticed the Elizabeth [train] line … I wish for everyone to recall what an extraordinary woman she was.”

Ferguson also provided Us Weekly with an exclusive update on the young dogs in September 2024.

“I possess seven dogs, with two being corgis and five being Norfolk terriers. All of them are thriving,” she divulged while attending the Global Citizen Prize Awards at that time. “They are all exceedingly charming and immensely cherished!”

Ferguson observed that they all coexist harmoniously.

“It demands a considerable amount of effort, but it's an endeavor I deeply enjoy,” she clarified. “I am surrounded by numerous dog enthusiasts who also adore them and delight in their care, allowing me to distribute responsibilities, which I do.”
