Quinta Brunson Debunks Pregnancy Rumors and Rings in the New Year After Divorce Finalization

Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson swiftly dismissed rumors of a pregnancy while celebrating the arrival of the new year.

Speculation began after the 36-year-old actress posted a photo through her Instagram Story on Wednesday, December 31. In the image, Brunson wore a festive headband atop a beanie, which she paired with a roomy, oversized sweater. She struck a slightly angled pose, creating some bunching around her midsection.

“I’m not expecting,” Brunson clarified in a subsequent Instagram Story upload. “The sweater is just draped in an unusual way. It’s not 2026 already, and I’m not getting a baby bump.”

Brunson celebrated the new year with friends following her separation from Kevin Jay Anik. Us Weekly confirmed in March 2025 that Brunson initiated proceedings to end their three-year marriage.

According to court documents obtained by Us at the time, Brunson indicated their date of separation as “To Be Determined” and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. She noted that the couple “entered into a postnuptial agreement which governs the distribution of their property” and requested that each party be responsible for their legal expenses.

In September 2025, the former couple reached an agreement, finalizing their divorce in an uncontested manner, according to People. The updated documents revealed the duo’s date of separation as December 1, 2024.

Brunson and Anik married in 2021. Prior to their split, Brunson rarely shared details about their relationship, but she offered some rare insights into how they met in her 2022 memoir, She Memes Well.

“To be completely and authentically myself requires a lot of things that many men don’t have the capacity for,” she noted in an interview that same year.

Brunson praised Anik for allowing her to be herself, adding, “My husband, that’s what I mean by him being the ultimate support, that there’s no need to diminish me at all. That allows me to love him fully and be the person that I want to be, and am meant to be.”

Amid Abbott Elementary’s success, Brunson frequently expressed gratitude to Anik for standing by her side. She gave him affectionate shout-outs in acceptance speeches at the 2022 Emmy Awards and the 2023 Golden Globes.

“I didn’t prepare anything because I just didn’t anticipate … Oh, goodness. I love my mom, my dad, my sisters, my brothers, my entire family so much. I love my husband. I’m so happy,” she said at the Golden Globes. “I love Abbott Elementary. Thank you so much.”

Months after her divorce became public knowledge, Brunson reflected on the difficulties of navigating such a personal decision in the public eye.

“I remember seeing people say, ‘She announced her divorce,’” she told Bustle in June 2025. “I didn’t make any announcement.”

She continued, “I think people have this notion that people in the public eye want the public to know every detail of their lives. None of us do. I promise you. No one wants [everyone] to know when they purchase a home, when they relocate, when a significant change occurs in their personal life. It’s just that that’s information available to the public.”

While discussing the impact of fame, Brunson noted, “I appreciate my fans, I appreciate the people who watch Abbott. But when it comes to matters of your personal life, you do have to block it out. Those are voices that are distant from your home, that aren’t part of your personal life, that aren’t your friends.”
