Rapper Poorstacy Dies at 26 Following Boca Raton Incident

The Florida-based musical artist, Poorstacy, has passed away following a reported “incident” in Boca Raton, Florida. He was 26 years old.

Carlito Milfort Jr., as he was known officially, died on Saturday, November 29, a fact confirmed by the Boca Raton Police Department to various news outlets on Monday, December 1.

The “incident” took place at 2899 N. Federal Highway, the location of the Boca By the Sea hotel, as stated by Dylan Huberman, a spokesperson for the police department, to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Boca Raton Fire Rescue personnel arrived at the hotel shortly after 6 a.m. and transported Poorstacy as a trauma patient to Delray Medical Center, Lt. Karl Richards, a fire department spokesperson, conveyed to the publication.

An employee at the hotel informed TMZ, the first to report the news, that Poorstacy had been residing at the hotel for ten days, having checked in with a woman and a toddler. However, no other individuals were reported injured on Saturday, and Poorstacy was the sole person hospitalized, according to the outlet.

The official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Poorstacy was recognized for his ability to blend the styles of emo rap, punk rap, and punk rock. He frequently collaborated with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, who paid homage to the late rapper via his Instagram Stories on Monday.

“Rest in peace you’ll never be forgotten,” Barker, 50, captioned a video clip featuring himself and Poorstacy performing the latter’s 2020 song “Hills Have Eyes.”

He then uploaded a clip of their 2020 track “Choose Life.” (Barker and Poorstacy also partnered on the song “Nothing Left” in the same year.)

Poorstacy also worked with Bring Me the Horizon frontman Oli Sykes on numerous projects, including Poorstacy's 2021 song “Knife Party.”

Sykes, 39, also offered a tribute to the Palm Beach, Florida, native after his passing.

“R.I.P,” the singer inscribed over a photograph of the pair, accompanied by a black heart symbol.

Poorstacy enthusiastically discussed his friendship with Sykes in a 2021 interview with Revolver.

“Oli sends me clothes that he thinks would look good on me,” he remarked at the time. “He sends me handwritten letters and we play Call of Duty until six in the morning.”

Although Poorstacy spent his later years in Florida, he grew up moving between Queens and Brooklyn before New York eventually became too expensive for his family, he told the publication. He encountered difficulties during his teenage years and spent time in juvenile detention facilities.

“I possessed a truly violent nature,” Poorstacy explained. “I would behave impulsively. My actions would involve either self-harm for notice or inflicting harm on others for the same purpose.”

In addition to his creative partnerships with other artists, Poorstacy was featured on the 2020 Bill & Ted Face the Music movie soundtrack, which earned him a Grammy nomination. His most recent solo recording, “Nothing belongs to you,” was made public in July. In October, Poorstacy collaborated with Paris Shadows on the track “Last Time Around.”

Poorstacy’s final social media update was in August, when he posted photographs of himself seated in a car on Instagram. One of the images depicted a small child in the background.

“Because baby I’m a Beamer boy,” he wrote as the caption for the post.
