Reiner Children Find Solace in Community Service Amidst Family Tragedy

Romy and Jake Reiner began the new year by volunteering in their community.

Romy, 28, and Jake, 34, children of the late Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, were observed tidying up a Malibu beach on Thursday, January 1, according to photos obtained by TMZ. The siblings were accompanied by their friend Alex Siliberg as they gathered litter that had washed ashore.

This marks the second occasion Jake and Romy have been seen walking on the beach since the tragic loss of their parents. They were spotted out and about in celebration of Romy’s birthday on Tuesday, December 30.

Last month, Rob and Michele were discovered deceased inside their Brentwood, California, residence. The couple were 78 and 70 years old, respectively.

Us Weekly subsequently confirmed that Romy and Jake’s brother, Nick, was taken into custody and is being held without bail on suspicion of murder following the discovery of Rob and Michele with “apparent stab wounds.” (Rob also shared an adopted daughter, Tracy, 61, with his first wife, the late Penny Marshall.)

Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and did not enter a plea during his initial court appearance. His arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Shortly after news of Nick’s arrest emerged, Jake and Romy released a statement regarding their parents’ passing.

“Words cannot adequately express the unimaginable grief we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something no one should ever have to endure,” the siblings stated. “They were not just our parents; they were our closest confidants.”

The pair continued, “We are deeply appreciative of the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received, not only from family and friends but from people from all areas of life. We now request respect and privacy, that speculation be approached with compassion and understanding, and that our parents be remembered for the remarkable lives they lived and the love they shared.”

Following the deaths of Rob and Michele, acquaintances of the couple revealed they had received the family’s holiday cards.

“Today, a card arrived from Michele and Rob Reiner!” Neda Soderqvist wrote via Instagram on Monday, December 29. “Even from beyond, they were still ensuring everyone received their bonuses, and what truly touched my soul and heart were the cards that Michele wrote me. One of the amusing things about her was that each time she sent a bonus, she would make me promise her that I would use it for myself and not give it away.”

Soderqvist continued, “She knew me so well, but today, Michelle, I promise you I’ll keep $100 and donate the rest in your honor to one of the most inspiring foundations that I know you cherished. Thank you for being my best friend, a ride or die. Someone who taught me self-worth and self-love, and I will continue your legacy forever. I pledge to be here for your children.”
