Reports indicate that Jeremy Renner has initiated legal action following startling claims made by director Yi Zhou concerning their purported relationship and its conclusion.
Renner, aged 54, served Zhou, 34, with a cease and desist order via his lawyer, Marty Singer, as reported by TMZ on Saturday, November 8. The publication detailed Renner's assertion that he consented to work on Zhou's Chronicles of Disney documentary prior to her alleged romantic advances.
Renner asserted that his interaction with Zhou amounted to a “short, consensual encounter,” but that he rejected her supposed overtures for a sexual involvement. In the legal correspondence acquired by TMZ, Renner urged Zhou to cease disseminating what he termed “sensational falsehoods” and leveraging his identity and image. The Avengers actor warned of additional legal recourse should she fail to adhere to his demands.
Zhou, meanwhile, informed TMZ that she had, in fact, dispatched three cease and desist letters to Renner herself over the preceding month, cautioning the actor against potential defamation or blackmail.

Zhou recently alleged that Renner transmitted to her a “series of unsolicited and unwanted explicit photos of himself” months prior through direct messages and WhatsApp.
“He assured me of his genuine intentions, stating he had been unattached for an extended period and was open to a lasting partnership,” Zhou posted on Instagram on Monday, November 3, referencing the Marvel star. “I placed my faith in him, in the strength of affection, and in the prospect of atonement.”
Zhou further contended that Renner “declined” to endorse Chronicles of Disney or publicly dispel whispers about the film's AI origins once their relationship ended.
“Upon confronting him privately regarding his previous inappropriate conduct and requesting he act appropriately, respecting me as both a woman and a filmmaker, he allegedly threatened to contact immigration authorities/ICE, a move that profoundly startled and intimidated me,” she asserted on Monday. “This kind of conduct is intolerable and highlights the power disparity that persistently affects women within our field.”

She went on to say, “It is with profound sorrow, regret, and disillusionment that I am obligated to reveal a truth I have kept hidden for too long. Zhou indicated that it required “considerable time” for her to gather the bravery to recount her version of events.
“I extend my gratitude to my team, my representatives/managers, and friends/other women who encouraged me in expressing such a profound pain and mortification I still carry within me as I compose these messages,” she finished.
Renner, conversely, has emphatically refuted Zhou’s allegations.
“These assertions are entirely false and without basis,” Renner’s spokesperson informed Us in a statement issued Friday, November 7, directly addressing the rumors that he threatened to contact immigration authorities or transmitted unsolicited explicit pictures of himself.
Zhou addressed Renner’s rebuttal in a social media declaration mere hours subsequent.
“I will refrain from further commentary as our focus must be on our endeavors and awards push,” she stated on Instagram on Saturday, November 8. “I hand the platform over to the other women who have come forward.”
