“Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, have returned home safely to their family and are in positive spirits,” in a statement provided to Us, a representative for the couple relayed. “They deeply appreciate the overwhelming display of care and encouragement from their friends, supporters, and professional associates. The Osefos, in collaboration with their legal counsel, anticipate their court appearance. As per the documents, the arrests of the couple occurred following an incident in April 2024 when the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to their residence concerning a purported break-in. Wendy and Eddie asserted that upon returning from a vacation in Jamaica, they discovered their bedroom and closets in disarray, with numerous designer handbags and pieces of jewelry reportedly missing.

“A damaged screen was found on the roof, and the window itself was unsecured. Accessing or exiting this window necessitates stepping on the toilet. The toilet lid was closed and free of any debris. Upon deputies navigating from the roof back into the residence, they inadvertently brought roof 'grit' indoors,” the documents elaborated.

Further, the documents stated, “The Osefos possessed both an ADT security system and a Ring doorbell camera. Before their departure for vacation, the Osefos activated their ADT alarm. Throughout their absence, no internal motion was registered within the dwelling. However, the Ring camera did capture external activity, such as package drop-offs, which the Osefos observed remotely.”

Eddie provided statements concerning an inventory of supposedly stolen items to two distinct insurance providers.

“When questioned if any of the listed items had been recovered, he denied it. He was also queried about holding additional insurance coverage but neglected to inform Homesite and Jewelers that he had also filed a claim with Travelers Insurance.”

Both Eddie and Wendy affixed their signatures to declarations, asserting a loss of $2,500 for structural damage and $450,000 for personal property.

On April 8, 2024, in his initial claim submitted to Travelers, Eddie declared that both he and his wife were wearing their anniversary rings at the time of the alleged theft.
