Rob Reiner's Son Nick Reiner Previously Detailed Violent Addiction Episode Before Murder Arrest

Rob Reiner and his spouse Michele Singer Reiner‘s son, Nick Reiner, previously confessed to almost completely wrecking his parents' guesthouse during a severe episode of addiction.

“It isn’t much of an anecdote,” Nick mentioned during an appearance on the “Dopey” podcast in August 2018. “I became completely manic from stimulants — I believe it involved cocaine and possibly another substance — which kept me awake for several consecutive days. I began physically striking various items inside my guest house.”

Nick recalled starting with the television, then moving to the lamp, before "every single item in the guest house was ruined."

“I completely tore up my guest house,” he revealed. “I physically struck the television screen.”

When questioned about whether he sustained injuries during the episode, Nick responded that he could not “even recall at this stage.”

“My family informed me I needed to leave,” he stated, appearing to confirm his parents attempted to remove him from the property prior to the destruction. “I cannot recall the precise details of that exchange.”

Throughout the podcast discussion, Nick referred to himself as a “drug addict” and mentioned he was using marijuana and small amounts of Adderall around the period when the interview was recorded.

When asked whether any reasoning motivated him to destroy the guest house, Nick merely replied, “I was irrational. There was no coherent thought.”

These audio segments gained renewed attention online following the discovery of Rob and Michele deceased at their Brentwood residence in Los Angeles on Sunday, December 14. Rob had reached the age of 78, and Michele was 68.

“We share with deep sadness the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a family representative stated in an announcement provided to Variety. “This abrupt loss has left us devastated, and we respectfully request privacy during this extraordinarily challenging period.”

The following day, the Los Angeles Police Department Parker City Jail informed Us that Nick, currently 32 years old, had been taken into custody on suspicion of murder. (Rob and Michele were also parents to Jake, 34, and Romy, 28, in addition to Rob's adopted daughter Tracy, 61, from his previous marriage to ex-wife Penny Marshall.)

Nick's legal matter is scheduled to be reviewed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for official charges on Tuesday, December 16, according to a statement from the LAPD. He remains incarcerated without possibility of bail.

The day preceding Rob and Michelle’s deaths, the couple attended Conan O’Brien‘s holiday gathering. An anonymous source informed Us that Nick reportedly behaved in a “disturbing” manner at the event before departing.

TMZ indicated that Rob and Nick engaged in an audible dispute during the party, which was witnessed by other guests. Rob and Michele then departed the event on Saturday, December 13 — exactly one day before they were discovered dead from “apparent stab wounds” at their Los Angeles residence.

Police Statement Confirms Rob Reiner’s Son Nick Is Detained Without Bail

Nick has publicly discussed his struggles with addiction, previously disclosing that he began battling substance use in his teenage years, resulting in his initial rehabilitation stay at age 15. Following numerous relapses and additional treatment programs, Nick eventually became homeless.

After achieving sobriety, Nick leveraged his personal experience as the basis for the 2015 motion picture Being Charlie. The movie, which Nick helped write, was directed by Rob and chronicled a family’s struggles with a son's substance abuse issues.
