Robin Wright Proves Love's Enduring Power After Three Divorces

Actress Robin Wright identifies as a "romantic" and serves as a testament to enduring belief in love, even after experiencing three marital dissolutions.
“One might navigate through turbulent, challenging partnerships, yet we invariably recover, don't you agree?” stated Wright, age 59, during an interview with AARP The Magazine on Thursday, September 18. “Our spirits bounce back, holding onto the conviction that love persists, is attainable, and its return is truly magnificent.”
Wright has entered matrimony on three occasions. Her first marriage was to the late Dane Witherspoon in 1986, though their union ended in divorce just two years later. She subsequently married Sean Penn in 1996; they had two children together, a daughter named Dylan born in 1991 and a son named Hopper in 1993. In 2018, Wright exchanged vows with Clement Giraudet. Their separation was finalized in 2022, with irreconcilable differences cited as the grounds for divorce. Additionally, Wright was engaged twice to Ben Foster before their final parting in 2015.
In 2024, Wright commenced a relationship with British-Australian architect Henry Smith. The esteemed actress, known for her role in The Princess Bride, disclosed to The Times of London in August that their initial encounter took place in a public house after she offered a portion of her steak to his dog, Rusty.
An intimate look: Robin Wright shares details about her romantic life with her partner.
“Someone else present remarked, ‘No, that’s not my canine; it belongs to him,’” Wright recounted to the publication, indicating Smith. “Subsequently, Henry, who was at the bar, set his drink aside, approached me, and grasped my shoulders. He demanded, ‘Who the hell are you?’ To which I retorted, ‘Who the hell are you?’ And that marked the beginning.”
The two rapidly developed a close connection after contracting COVID-19 simultaneously. “We were prostrate in bed, gravely unwell, weeping, giggling, embracing, cherishing, kissing passionately, making love,” she described. “It was simply a feeling of, ‘I desire to truly understand you.’”
As per Wright, Smith was entirely unaware of her celebrity standing in Hollywood, finding himself drawn simply to her "Nordic goddess-like allure."
“He possesses a kind disposition and is simply a commendable, honorable individual,” she further remarked. “He embodies masculinity.”
Since then, Wright and Smith have relocated to London and are presently leasing a residence along the English coast. Wright characterized this move as “emancipating,” commenting, “Conclude the quest, the search, and settling for merely 60 percent of your desires.”
Even though she is deeply enamored with Smith, Wright does not intend to marry for a fourth time, deeming the prospect “superfluous.”
“I cherish solitude and have experienced it frequently,” she informed The Times. “However, I feel, ‘I wish to share my later years with someone, and journey and explore the globe’.”
On good terms? Sean Penn and Robin Wright observed in each other’s company for the first time in several years.
While another marriage may not be her objective, Wright's aspirations for a lasting romantic companion are exceedingly distinct.
“My desire is to no longer experience apprehension,” the star of Girlfriend elucidated to AARP on Thursday. “I wish to forgo uncertainty, to not harbor suspicions. I reject all those behaviors we engaged in during our twenties. I cannot envision experiencing those old sentiments again, specifically jealousy and mistrust. One matures past such feelings, much like outgrowing an article of clothing.”
