Rogan Condemns Trump's Insensitive Remarks Following Rob Reiner's Death
Joe Rogan has expressed disapproval of President Donald Trump’s remarks concerning the passing of Rob Reiner.
“The situation with Rob Reiner isn’t humorous. Observing it without compassion is difficult to appreciate,” Rogan, 58, stated on the Thursday, December 25, installment of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. “There’s no justification for his actions that aligns with a caring society. It’s comparable to individuals celebrating when Charlie Kirk was shot. It’s the same type of behavior.”
Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were discovered deceased in their Brentwood, California, residence on December 14. The subsequent day, Us Weekly confirmed that the couple’s son Nick Reiner had been taken into custody.
Nick has subsequently been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He has not yet entered a plea, but has retained prominent attorney Alan Jackson. His court appearance was postponed until January 7, 2026.
Rob Reiner and Wife Michele's History With Donald Trump Explained
On December 15, Trump, 79, commented on Rob’s death in a controversial Truth Social message.
“A very unfortunate event occurred last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a struggling, but formerly very talented film director and comedy performer, has died, along with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he provoked in others through his persistent, unwavering, and seemingly incurable affliction with a mind-affecting condition known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS,” he wrote. “He was known for driving people CRAZY through his intense obsession with President Donald J. Trump, with his evident paranoia reaching unprecedented levels as the Trump Administration exceeded all objectives and expectations of success, and with the Golden Age of America flourishing, perhaps like never before. May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”
During his podcast episode, Rogan — alongside guest Shane Gillis — imagined what might have transpired if former President Barack Obama had spoken in a similar manner after the death of a Hollywood figure.
“Imagine if Obama had posted something about someone after their passing, suggesting that person was hostile toward Obama,” Rogan envisioned. “It simply illustrates how unusual it is, the way Trump thinks and communicates. It’s akin to someone being harmed by their own child, you know? Anyone who doesn’t recognize that and say, ‘Wow, man.’”

While Gillis, 38, expressed a desire for Trump “to offer an apology,” he and Rogan concurred that the current president likely wouldn’t.
“It’s incredibly disheartening,” Rogan added. “The Rob Reiner situation was shocking because Rob Reiner made it his mission to attempt to remove Trump from office.”
During a 2017 interview with Variety, Rob characterized Trump as “the single most unqualified individual to ever hold the presidency of the United States.”
“He is mentally unprepared,” Rob added. “Not only does he lack an understanding of how government functions, he has no interest in learning how it works.”

Although numerous Republican officials and Hollywood celebrities criticized Trump’s Truth Social message shortly after its publication, the politician reinforced his comments while addressing the media on December 15.
“Well, I wasn’t a fan of his in any way,” he said. “He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned.”
Trump further stated that he believed Rob was “detrimental to our country” as the director frequently voiced opposition to the administration.
