Royal Expert Claims Prince William Asked for Time Off After Kate and Charles' Cancer Diagnoses
Esteemed royal commentator Robert Jobson is revealing new details about what he claims was Prince William’s reported response to the cancer diagnoses of his spouse, Kate Middleton, and his father, King Charles.
Within his recent publication, The Windsor Legacy, Jobson asserts that William, 43, requested a temporary hiatus from his official royal engagements in 2024, following the diagnoses of his wife and father with unspecified forms of cancer, an account reported by Page Six from an excerpt on Saturday, November 8.
Jobson further states that King Charles, whose own diagnosis occurred in February 2024, rejected William's plea.
Additionally, Jobson records that both Prince William and the Princess of Wales “found increased solace in faith” after her diagnosis was made public in March 2024.

“Though not previously recognized for consistent church attendance, William now visits religious services more often, maintaining the utmost discretion,” Jobson details in his book, set for release on January 6, 2026.
Us Weekly sought official statements from both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace.
Prince William recently shared an update regarding his wife’s well-being during an October installment of Eugene Levy’s Apple TV+ program, The Reluctant Traveler.
“Indeed, matters are positive,” the royal informed the actor and presenter, confirming that Kate, 43, is presently in a state of remission. “All is moving forward favorably, which is certainly welcome news.”
He further elaborated, “We have been fortunate; our family has experienced few significant health issues over an extended period. My grandparents enjoyed longevity into their late nineties. They embodied health, steadfastness, and fortitude, one might say.”
Although the Prince of Wales recognized his family’s good fortune, he then articulated the impact when a loved one — particularly two individuals — receives a diagnosis of a severe and potentially fatal condition.
“Thus, our family has been quite blessed. However, I believe that when one suddenly apprehends that life’s foundation, that proverbial carpet, can be unexpectedly removed at any moment,” he clarified. “You might assure yourself, ‘This won’t affect us, we'll be fine’ — as I believe most people maintain an optimistic perspective. One must remain positive. But when it actually occurs, then yes, it leads you to some rather challenging emotional states.”
Ultimately, the Prince of Wales expressed immense admiration for how both his father and his wife have confronted their personal health struggles, particularly under intense global scrutiny.
“One recognizes that life presents trials, and it can certainly be demanding at times; surmounting these challenges is fundamental to our character,” William remarked. “I am, you know, exceptionally proud of my wife and my father for their resilience throughout the past year. My children have also coped admirably.”

William and Kate are parents to three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. In discussing Kate’s health challenges, the royal father elaborated on how they, as parents, guided their children through this trying period.
“Our aim is to ensure they receive the security and reassurance they require,” he stated. “We operate as a transparent family unit, discussing matters that concern and trouble us, though the full repercussions are not always immediately evident. Therefore, it is crucial to support one another and to convey to the children that all will be well.”
