Royal Family's Hilarious Secret: Fawlty Towers Fills Their Living Room with Laughter

Prince William, Princess Kate Middleton, and their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — have found entertainment in a beloved British television program.

William and Kate, both aged 43, were present at the Tusk Conservation Awards held on Wednesday, November 26, at London's Savoy Hotel. During their attendance, the royal couple encountered the celebrated actor John Cleese.

The Prince shared with Cleese, 86, that their household experiences "a lot of family laughs" when they tune into the 1970s sitcom Fawlty Towers. He also mentioned that his children "love" the program.

Fawlty Towers originally aired on BBC Two in 1975 and 1975. Cleese, who also co-wrote the series with his then-wife Connie Booth, played the leading role of Basil Fawlty. The program chronicled the life of Basil, an ill-mannered hotel owner, as he tried to operate his establishment amidst a succession of unusual guests.

On Wednesday, William additionally informed Cleese that he was "reminiscing" about the show by watching it with his children, thereby experiencing it "all over again," as reported by British media.

"It's brilliant," William remarked regarding the comedic series.

Cleese, too, shared a personal reflection on the creation of the show during Wednesday's event.

"I always explain that it's about 'who's scared of whom,' and children grasp that instantly," he stated. "And my own children, many years ago, grew up watching it."

The event on Wednesday was attended by numerous celebrities. Besides William and Cleese, who serves as an ambassador for the Tusk Conservation Awards, Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood was also among the guests. William's cousin Zara Tindall and her spouse, Mike Tindall, were present, as were Lady Amelia and Lady Eliza Spencer.

The Tusk Conservation Awards recognize the "heroes of African conservation and assist in sharing their narratives globally," states the ceremony's official website.

"The Tusk Conservation Awards have acted as a launchpad for Africa's leading conservationists," the website further elaborated. "These protectors of biodiversity have subsequently excelled in their respective areas, expanding their initiatives and enhancing conservation efforts throughout the continent."

William serves as the royal patron for the organization, clarifying his presence at the gathering.

"These accolades, which hold significant personal importance for me, are crucial to our objective of safeguarding Africa's invaluable wildlife for its inhabitants," stated the Prince of Wales. "It is essential that we acknowledge the commitment of these unrecognized champions and the courage of rangers who risk their lives continuously on the forefront of conservation. We all owe them profound appreciation."

The recipient of the Tusk Award for Conservation was Rahima Njaidi, who heads MJUMITA, Tanzania's largest collective of community forest protectors.

During his address at last night's gathering, William referred to his recent international journey, emphasizing the need for more "accelerated" initiatives to benefit the environment.
