Royal Rumble: William's Ultimatum and Charles's Scrapped Visit Fuel Andrew's Royal Lodge Saga
The ongoing turmoil within the monarchy persists, with the controversy surrounding Prince Andrew consistently dominating the news.
Emily Maitlis, the renowned British journalist celebrated for her 2019 BBC Newsnight interview with Andrew, addressed the repercussions on the Monday, October 27 installment of “The News Agents” podcast.
According to Maitlis, the British press was reportedly tipped off last week that King Charles III intended to visit Royal Lodge after his Vatican trip, an event that ultimately did not occur.
Maitlis asserted that the 76-year-old Charles was expected to be observed “delivering a stern warning to his brother.”

Given that the media attention had seemingly become “unmanageable,” Buckingham Palace reportedly became “extremely apprehensive” and “called off the entire arrangement.”
Maitlis further claimed that Prince William intervened regarding the eviction of the 65-year-old former Duke of York from his Royal Lodge residence. She asserted that just hours before Charles and Andrew’s scheduled encounter, the 43-year-old Prince of Wales encountered Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, presenting them with an alleged ultimatum.
“‘You two must convince your father to vacate Royal Lodge, or we will commence a review of your own titles,’” Maitlis reported William as telling his cousins, adding that he supposedly exerted “pressure” on both Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 35, to facilitate Andrew’s departure.
“It’s clear why Andrew, in his role as a father, would be motivated to ensure his daughters’ contentment and preserve their titles, regardless of circumstances,” Maitlis elaborated.
Us Weekly has sought a statement from the royal household.
Speculation surrounding Andrew’s residency has intensified following his announcement this month to relinquish his royal appellations.
“After consulting with The King, and my direct and extended family, we have determined that the persistent allegations against me divert attention from the duties of His Majesty and the Royal Family,” Andrew communicated in an October 17 statement to Us Weekly. “I have opted, as is my custom, to prioritize my obligations to my family and nation. I uphold my choice from five years ago to withdraw from public engagement.”

Consequently, I will cease using my title and the distinctions bestowed upon me. As I have stated before, I emphatically refute the allegations leveled against me.”
The association between Andrew and the deceased, convicted billionaire sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein became public knowledge in 2019, at which time the discredited royal was accused of engaging in sexual acts with Virginia Giuffre while she was a minor. He has consistently and strenuously refuted these claims.
Shortly after Andrew renounced his titles, Giuffre’s posthumously published memoir presented additional accusations against Andrew and Epstein. (Giuffre passed away at 41 by suicide in April.)
