Ruby Kemper Makes Dazzling Debut at Le Bal, Fulfilling Childhood Dream and Honoring Family Legacy
Ruby Kemper, whose parents are Ross and Linda Kemper (with her mother being the inheritor of MGM Studios magnate Kirk Kerkorian's fortune), recently stepped into the social spotlight, sharing details of her dazzling evening with Us Weekly.
The 20-year-old Kemper, formally introduced at the exceedingly private and opulent Le Bal des Débutantes on Saturday, November 29, informed Us that this occasion had been a lifelong aspiration since her elder sister, Tess, made her own debut a decade prior.
“I recall my sister participating when I was a mere 10 years old. And without fail, each year I witnessed the ball, I would simply envision how my own evening would unfold,” Kemper expressed. “This event also holds deep significance for me because it aids children’s hospitals and ARCFA, which focuses on pediatric health and cardiovascular research. I truly believe philanthropy is paramount, and upon receiving this invitation, I recognized its charitable aspect. Therefore, beyond its noble purpose, it's incredibly thrilling for both me and my family, offering a novel opportunity to encounter new individuals and kindred spirits from across the globe.”
Kemper disclosed to Us that even though she hails from a prominent lineage, her family exerted no pressure on her to take part; instead, her motivation stemmed from personal desire.

“No one within my family imposed any pressure on me. It was primarily for my own sake, which is truly wonderful,” Kemper stated. “My family takes immense pride in me, and I am incredibly fortunate to possess such a remarkable support network. Maintaining the esteemed reputation of my name is crucial to me, so I also wish to honor my family. I perceive it as profoundly unique and significant for myself and for those observing, and there is a benchmark I aspire to achieve.”
The student from Cornell University explained to Us that Le Bal, originally established in 1958 and later re-energized by Ophélie Renouard in 1992, possesses a character less akin to Bridgerton than one might assume.
“I believe what makes it so remarkable today is that you're essentially introducing yourself to the world, demonstrating your identity, your family's heritage, and all that has been achieved, and it's a celebration of that, which is truly incredible,” Kemper shared. “It's no longer solely about finding a spouse, which, as we know, isn't the reality of our current society. It's purely for the young women themselves.”
Kemper's presentation occurred alongside 18 other young women hailing from diverse, distinguished families, including Bronwyn, daughter of Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance, Spanish noble Princess Eulalia de Orléans-Borbon, and Lady Araminta Spencer-Churchill, a kinswoman of Winston Churchill and a cousin to Princess Diana.
“Behind the scenes, the focus is entirely on the sparkle, the adornments, the cosmetics, the coiffure; you're all preparing collectively,” Kemper remarked. “Within that environment, you recognize that we're simply ourselves, unburdened by the flawless, perfect imagery often portrayed online.”
“Interacting with them was effortless. Despite having never encountered them before, and despite their vastly different backgrounds and origins from various global locations, you instantly find ample subjects for conversation and connection,” Kemper added.
Kemper donned a bespoke Chrome Hearts gown, a creation she co-designed with brand founders Richard and Laurie Stark, alongside their daughter Frankie.
“I never wavered in selecting Chrome Hearts, even if it was a somewhat unconventional choice for such an occasion,” Kemper confided in Us. “My desired aesthetic was sleek and adorned with lace, featuring their distinctive Chrome Hearts emblem subtly integrated throughout the dress. However, I didn't want it to be overtly conspicuous; that doesn't align with my style. A black, somewhat grungier appearance wouldn't quite suit me, as I perceive myself as having a lighter sensibility. I communicated my precise preferences, and Frankie provided a sketch that immediately captivated me.”
Angela Bassett’s Daughter’s Participation in the Debutante Ball
“I visited the factory in Los Angeles, where she presented me with a sample of fabric, and I expressed my admiration for it. Consequently, she incorporated that small fabric swatch into a design sketch, and I was instantly smitten. Production then commenced with minimal alterations. She truly materialized my ideal gown and my specific desires; her talent in this regard is immense, and the experience was extraordinary,” Kemper elaborated.
Her ensemble was accessorized with Christian Louboutin footwear and a 40-carat paraiba tourmaline necklace courtesy of V Muse, an event patron. Kemper revealed to Us how Alex Fan, the founder of V Muse, personally selected the magnificent necklace to complement her attire.
“[Alex] offered it to me and fastened it, and it proved to be the most astounding, exquisite, and magnificent piece of jewelry I have ever adorned,” Kemper stated. “It holds the distinction of being the largest globally, exceeding 40 carats. And [Alex] is simply delightful and incredibly gracious. I immediately recognized my affection for it and its impeccable harmony with my gown.”
Kemper's escort for the evening was Gabriel Gledhill, a British skier presently undergoing training for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
“He was truly remarkable, a complete gentleman,” she informed Us.
Throughout the celebration, the debutantes enter accompanied by their cavaliers, followed by a formal introduction from a speaker who recites their biography. They circulate the room for photographs before retreating to a separate area for additional pictures, conversations among themselves, and their “private small gathering,” all while their relatives dine. Subsequently, they perform a waltz with their fathers later in the night. Kemper mentioned that as the evening progressed, she and numerous other young women removed their footwear and joined the dance floor.
“I removed my Louboutins and held them in my hand. I was simply enjoying myself immensely as we all danced,” Kemper recounted to Us. “It was incredibly entertaining. If you examine the photographs, you'll see nothing but authentic, heartfelt smiles everywhere.”
