Ryan Lochte's Instagram Post Fuels Speculation Amid Financial Disputes With Ex Kayla Rae Reid
Ryan Lochte appears to be conveying an understated message concerning the financial disputes involving his estranged spouse, Kayla Rae Reid.
On Wednesday, November 19, the 41-year-old Lochte posted an Instagram Story displaying a screenshot of him enjoying Kanye West’s song “Gold Digger.” Within the picture, the specific lyric “oh, she’s a gold digger” was highlighted in white lettering, with the remaining song text softened in the background.
Lochte captioned it, “Always good time to listen to the classics.”
It was reported in June that the 34-year-old Reid initiated divorce proceedings against Lochte, ending their seven-year marriage. (The couple, who wed in 2018, are parents to their 8-year-old son Caiden, and daughters Liv, 6, and Georgia, 2.)
At that time, Reid shared on Instagram, “Earlier this year, I made the hard decision to end my marriage after deep prayer and reflection. I hold marriage in the highest regard, so this has been one of the most painful, revealing and challenging seasons of my life. I’ve been hesitant to share until I could do so from a place of healing — not from fresh, open wounds.”
Lochte, in turn, issued his own declaration, posting on social media, “Although this decision hasn’t been easy, I believe it’s the right step toward peace and well-being for us both. I remain committed to healing, growth and coparenting with care and respect as we move forward separately. Thank you to our family and friends for your continued support. It truly means a lot as we begin this new chapter.”
Subsequently, the divorce proceedings have become contentious, with Reid alleging, partially, in an August court submission that she discovered Lochte using nitrous oxide in the presence of their children. She has petitioned the court to grant her exclusive physical custody of the children. Lochte, conversely, refuted these claims in a statement given to Us Weekly. The Olympic athlete acknowledged his struggle with substance abuse following his 2023 car collision, but asserted he never used drugs while his children were present.
In August, he stated, “I am not denying that I used drugs in my home, but I adamantly deny ever using drugs in front of or around my children, and I have never driven them while intoxicated. We all make mistakes in life. We are not defined by those mistakes, but by how we learn from them and the work we put in to overcome them. I am extremely sorry for hurting or disappointing anyone along the way. My focus now is on my recovery, on being the best father I can be, and on moving forward in a way that keeps my kids safe, supported, and loved.”

The couple's financial matters have subsequently garnered attention, as Reid insisted on being granted access to examine Lochte's records. An October court submission disclosed that Reid had issued subpoenas requesting banks to furnish all documents related to any accounts maintained by Lochte or his enterprise.
Within her subpoena, Reid sought all paperwork concerning accounts held by Ryan from January 2019 to the present, alongside details of any credit cards he acquired. She further inquired about any loans Lochte might have secured, and additionally dispatched a subpoena to Cash App to ascertain if the athlete received payments via the digital financial platform.
Another subpoena was directed to the firm operating Cameo, where Reid sought information on the number of videos Lochte was paid to create and the total compensation he received.
