Ryan Seacrest Mourns Loss of Father Gary to Prostate Cancer

The patriarch of the Seacrest family, Gary Seacrest, father to broadcast icon Ryan Seacrest, has passed away following a prolonged struggle with prostate cancer.

"With profound sadness, I announce that my beloved father departed peacefully earlier this week," the 50-year-old entertainment figure, Ryan, shared on Instagram this past Friday, October 31. "My mother, sister, and I find solace in the knowledge that he rests in a better place, free from any anguish or discomfort. Our hearts are heavy with grief."

The acclaimed radio personality further expressed, "He was a committed spouse for 56 years, an extraordinary 'Papa' to my niece Flora, and my closest confidant. Father, your memory will forever reside within our hearts. I love you."

Subsequently, Ryan recounted his father Gary's last moments during the Friday airing of his signature iHeartRadio program.

The radio community also mourns the passing of Pierre Robert, a long-serving Philadelphia radio DJ, who was 70.

"It remains incredibly clear in my memory, as he conveyed with diminishing strength and vigor that he loved us and would miss us," Ryan shared with emotion. "He turned his gaze to me — and with powerful eye contact — he instructed, 'Look after your mother.' And to my sister, [Meredith, and her husband,] Jimmy, he said, 'Care for Flora, my granddaughter.' Then, mere moments later, he closed his eyes and uttered, 'I need to go.' He understood. He had found his tranquility."

Gary is survived by his spouse of 56 years, Connie Seacrest, their two offspring, Ryan and Meredith, in addition to their cherished granddaughter, Flora.

Ryan had previously disclosed his father's medical condition on an installment of his On Air radio program earlier in the current year.

"My father is approximately 80 years old, and I share a very strong bond with him; he received a prostate cancer diagnosis years ago and commenced therapy," Ryan stated in July. "However, his condition did not improve. It deteriorated and metastasized. Things did not progress favorably for him."

As per Ryan, Gary's health crisis escalated during the most recent cycle of American Idol.

"I was on a live American Idol broadcast during the previous season when my sister telephoned, stating, 'Dad is in the ICU. How quickly can you arrive?'" Ryan recounted, mentioning that Gary had contracted pneumonia. "I completed the show. We were nearly finished. I couldn't even recall what I was uttering on air. It felt entirely automatic at that juncture."

Upon traveling to be with his father, Ryan found solace in reflecting on cherished family recollections.

"I observed my parents throughout weekends, exchanging photographs of smiles, joy, and togetherness," Ryan shared previously. "They have been wed for 55 years. And they have one another. They are simply content to sit side-by-side, gazing at the ocean. I wish to impart this because I have kept it private for a considerable period."

Following the announcement of his father's passing, numerous colleagues and well-known acquaintances of Ryan extended their sympathies within the comments section of his social media update.

"Truly an exceptional man. My deepest condolences, Ryan," his radio cohost Tanya Rad commented. "All my affection goes out to you, Connie, and Meredith."

American Idol judge Katy Perry, for her part, remarked, "Sending you and your family every bit of love."
