Sarah Ferguson Loses Charity Patrons Amid Epstein Email Controversy

Several charitable organizations are withdrawing their association with Sarah Ferguson following the resurfacing of a contentious email exchanged with Jeffrey Epstein.

As reported by the BBC, Julia's House, a hospice dedicated to children, initiated the termination of its collaboration with the Duchess of York earlier this week.

Subsequently, on Monday, September 22, the Teenage Cancer Trust, the British Heart Foundation, the Children's Literacy Charity, and Prevent Breast Cancer all declared they had removed the duchess from her patronage roles.

"The discovery of Sarah, Duchess of York's, communication with Jeffrey Epstein caused us considerable concern," stated Nadim and Tanya Ednan-Laperouse, co-founders of The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, in comments made to CBS News. "For a number of years, Sarah Ferguson has not participated actively with our organization. Although she held the position of patron, given the latest disclosures, we have determined that her continued affiliation with the charity would be unsuitable. We extend our gratitude for her previous generosity and assistance."

Us Weekly attempted to contact Ferguson's representative for a statement.

During the past weekend, an email purportedly sent by Ferguson, aged 65, to Epstein in 2011 was released by two newspapers. Both The Sun and the Mail on Sunday indicated that this email was dispatched several weeks after the duchess had publicly declared her separation from the disreputable financier.

A representative for Ferguson explained that the email's purpose was to address a legal threat from Epstein, who intended to sue her for libel.

"The duchess expressed her remorse regarding her connection with Epstein a long time ago, and her primary concern, as ever, remains with his victims," the spokesperson communicated in a statement provided to the BBC. "Similar to many others, she was misled by his fabrications. The moment she fully comprehended the gravity of the accusations against him, she immediately ceased all communication and publicly denounced him, leading him to threaten legal action for defamation due to her linking him with paedophilia."

The spokesperson further noted that the duchess upheld her previous public denouncement of Epstein.

"She does not retract any of her earlier statements," the communication proceeded. "This particular email was dispatched based on counsel the duchess received, aiming to pacify Epstein and mitigate his threats."

Within the email, Ferguson is reported to have informed Epstein that he had “consistently proven himself to be a loyal, philanthropic, and exceptional friend to both myself and my loved ones."

However, in a distinct interview from March 2011, Ferguson characterized her association with Epstein as an "enormous lapse in judgment.”

“I must emphasize unequivocally that I recognize a profound and grievous error in judgment was committed by my involvement with Jeffrey Epstein,” she declared. “His actions were reprehensible, and his imprisonment was entirely justified."

Epstein's death occurred by suicide in 2019, while he was incarcerated in a New York City detention facility awaiting trial for sex trafficking allegations.
