Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick: A Love Story Rooted in Broadway
Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick developed a strong connection through their mutual appreciation for musical theater in the ‘90s and continue to nurture that passion.
In November 1991, not long after Parker ended her relationship with Robert Downey Jr., the pair first encountered each other through the Broadway scene — and thanks to two of her brothers.
“He’s incredibly intelligent, strikingly handsome, I believe he’s the most handsome man I’ve ever seen,” the Sex and the City star revealed to the Los Angeles Times in 1996. “And he motivates me. I’m completely devoted to him.”
Following their wedding in 1997, Parker and Broderick celebrated the arrival of their first child, son James in 2002. Seven years later, their identical daughters, Marion and Tabitha, were born using a surrogate mother.
Throughout their long-lasting relationship, the two performers have maintained a remarkably low profile.
“Matthew and I are products of a different era and background,” Parker explained to Harper’s Bazaar in 2013. “When we were younger, all we ever desired was to be skilled working actors. [My ambition] was to perform in theater, to be surrounded by those whose artistry I deeply admired. The concept of discussing personal lives as celebrities simply didn’t exist. Therefore, when our marriage was brought up, we wouldn’t consider it necessary to address rumors.”
