Sarah Jessica Parker Honors Late Diane Keaton A Muse and Colleague
Sarah Jessica Parker expressed her good fortune at having collaborated with the recently deceased Diane Keaton on two separate occasions.
“Diane Keaton served as a muse for innumerable actresses, and I count myself among her ardent admirers,” Parker, aged 60, shared on Instagram this past Sunday, October 12. “It was a distinct honor to observe her unique prowess and artistry firsthand during the productions of both First Wives Club and The Family Stone.”
Reports emerged on Saturday, October 11, confirming Keaton's passing at 79 years old. The acclaimed Oscar recipient, survived by her two offspring, famously portrayed Annie Paradis in the 1996 ensemble comedy The First Wives Club, a story about three friends (Keaton, Goldie Hawn, and Bette Midler) orchestrating retaliation against their former husbands who abandoned them for younger partners. Parker had a role in the film as Shelly Stewart.
Nearly a decade later, Parker and Keaton reunited professionally for the 2005 film The Family Stone. Within this romantic comedy, Parker took on the character of Meredith Morton, who spends the festive season with her boyfriend Everett Stone’s (Dermot Mulroney) relatives. Keaton embodied the family's matriarch, Sybil Stone, expressing reservations about the impending engagement of the couple.

“I will treasure those moments from filming, alongside her moving, charming, and distinctly individual filmography, which stands as a magnificent testament to a truly exceptional individual,” Parker further stated in her online homage. “Her absence will be profoundly felt. Rest in peace and farewell, you splendid being.”
Mulroney, aged 61, similarly commemorated Keaton’s lasting impact this Sunday, posting clips from The Family Stone on his Instagram Story.
“You brought out the best in me, Diane,” Mulroney wrote.
A significant number of The Family Stone ensemble — with the other Stone siblings portrayed by Claire Danes, Rachel McAdams, and Luke Wilson — expressed immense admiration for the opportunity to act opposite Keaton in the festive hit.
“We ended up spending additional time together, enjoying a few pleasant dinners. That proved quite beneficial,” Wilson, 54, who played Ben Stone, shared in an exclusive 2021 interview with Us Weekly. “Diane — she commanded our collective respect. I recall thinking, here is Sarah Jessica, a symbol of style and wit from Sex and the City, and then here is the quintessential symbol of style and wit — Diane. … And Rachel McAdams was also wonderful. I distinctly remember those experiences as quite thrilling, heading to dinner by myself to encounter all these individuals.”

He continued, “You recognize some of them, and most you don’t, so there's a slight awkwardness upon arrival. I simply remember departing with the thought, ‘These individuals are fantastic! I'm eager to collaborate with them again.’”
Mulroney evidently shared this sentiment, informing Us that his experience collaborating with the full cast was “incredible.”
“I didn't foresee its lasting appeal,” Mulroney remarked to Us in 2021 regarding the movie's sustained success. “I was aware we were creating an outstanding film. Tom Bezucha authored, helmed, conceptualized, and meticulously crafted this entire production. He is truly a masterful director. Therefore, I knew we were expertly guided, and the cast is phenomenal … It's remarkable how that film genuinely acts like a perpetual present annually, bringing immense happiness and profound emotion to the lives of many.”
