Sarah Paulson Mourns Dear Friend Diane Keaton Amid Reports of Rapid Decline
Actress Sarah Paulson, a close companion of the recently deceased Diane Keaton, is grieving the iconic performer following her sudden passing.
Reports from Page Six indicate that Paulson, aged 50, was seen weeping outside Keaton’s residence on Saturday, October 11, mere hours after the announcement of Keaton’s demise. The publication further highlighted their long-standing friendship, stating they had been close “for many years,” and mentioned that other female acquaintances were observed departing the home alongside Paulson.
During a 2021 feature in Interview Magazine, Keaton participated in a Q&A session, responding to 25 queries submitted by her friends and acquaintances, among them the celebrated star of The People v. O.J. Simpson.
Paulson posed the question, “Should your home be ablaze and you could retrieve only one item, what would you choose?” Keaton’s response was: “My dog, Reggie.”

Paulson followed up with, “Which individual, location, or object brings you immense joy? (You’re allowed to mention me.)”
Keaton concurred. “Certainly, Sarah, you fill my heart with happiness,” she responded. “My companions bring me joy. My children bring me joy. However, Lillet Blanc also brings me joy. Served with plenty of ice.”
The announcement of Keaton’s passing led to numerous heartfelt homages celebrating the legacy of the Annie Hall icon. “Diane, we are not prepared to bid you farewell,” her fellow actress from First Wives Club, Goldie Hawn, posted on Instagram shortly after news of her death broke.
“You have bestowed upon us a path of enchantment, brimming with glimmering moments and recollections surpassing all expectation,” Hawn’s caption elaborated. “How does one articulate a final farewell? What expressions arise when one’s spirit is shattered? You consistently shunned compliments, so unassuming, but now, my dear, you cannot silence me. There has been, and never will be, anyone quite like you.”
She further stated: “You captivated global audiences and imparted your extraordinary talent to millions, crafting movies that evoked laughter and tears in a manner uniquely yours. It was a privilege to film First Wives Club alongside you; our mornings began with coffee in the makeup trailer, filled with mirth and banter, continuing until the final day of production. It was an exhilarating journey of affection.”
While the official reason for her passing remains undisclosed, a confidante of Keaton informed People that the performer experienced significant weight loss in the weeks leading up to her demise.
“I encountered her approximately two to three weeks prior, and she appeared notably slender,” Carole Bayer Sager revealed in an interview released on Sunday, October 12. “She had shed a considerable amount of weight.”
Sager also mentioned that Keaton had resided in Palm Springs for an extended period after the January 2025 wildfires ravaged parts of California.
“She was compelled to relocate to Palm Springs as her home sustained interior damage, necessitating a complete remediation,” Sager, 81, clarified. “She remained there for some time, and upon her return, I was quite astonished by the extent of her weight reduction.”

Regarding Keaton, whom Sager described as “a source of enchantment for all,” she further remarked, “I simply adored her. She possessed such a unique charm; her presence illuminated any space with her vibrant spirit. She was joyful and optimistic, perpetually capturing images of her surroundings. She was inherently imaginative; her creative drive was endless.”
