During her interview on Today With Jenna & Friends on Monday, December 1, Johansson, 41, reflected on her initial interactions with Jost, 43, stating, “Prior to him, no one had ever invited me on a formal date.” She elaborated, “I consistently entered exclusive relationships without experiencing the conventional ‘Would you like to get dinner sometime?’ type of invitation. … He was the one who genuinely proposed a date.”
The acclaimed actress from Black Widow revealed that she and the Saturday Night Live humorist visited “an Italian eatery in the East Village,” enjoying a “delightful evening meal around 8 p.m.” Nevertheless, Johansson found herself uncertain how to proceed when Jost suggested they extend their evening at a nearby bar.
She recounted, “Following dinner, he mentioned, ‘I’m meeting up with friends; let’s join them for a drink,’ and given my minimal dating experience, my immediate thought was, ‘I must depart now. I need to leave.’”

In his autobiography from 2020, titled A Very Punchable Face, Jost disclosed that while his romantic journey with Johansson commenced in 2017, his initial encounter with his future wife occurred much earlier, during an SNL taping in 2006.
