Scott Jennings offers Catherine Zeta Jones a seafood apology after her son Dylan's on-air debate

Scott Jennings has extended an olive branch to Catherine Zeta-Jones, following an on-screen disagreement with her son, Dylan Douglas.

The 48-year-old Jennings stated on the December 1 installment of the “Citizen McCain with Meghan McCain” podcast, “I was indeed taken aback. I am completely open to offering a personal apology to Catherine Zeta-Jones, perhaps over an enjoyable seafood meal, should she be inclined.”

The verbal exchange commenced last month when Dylan, 25, son of Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, featured on CNN NewsNight With Abby Phillip, engaging in a debate with the program's conservative pundit. Post-segment, celebrity reporter Rob Shuter reported that the acclaimed duo was displeased.

On his Substack blog, Shuter asserted, “They are absolutely incensed with CNN. I mean, they're talking about never engaging with, and completely boycotting, the entire network, that level of rage.”

Jennings recounted, “Off-air, Dylan was quite pleasant. He was very, and I believe, honored to participate. Our discussion was relatively standard. He presented his Democratic arguments, and I countered them. Such occurrences are not rare on CNN. I was equally taken aback to learn of his parents' distress over the matter.”

He further elaborated, “My belief is that some individuals reside within an insular environment. They seldom interact with Republicans or conservatives. They rarely venture beyond their comfort zone where they are constantly flattered. Consequently, when they appear on television opposite someone with differing views, it comes as a shock. I genuinely hope Dylan returns. I am confident he will improve.”

Jennings expressed a degree of sympathy for Dylan, observing that his parents' public complaints made him feel “somewhat sorry” for the younger Douglas.

“I never witnessed Dylan express any dissatisfaction himself,” Jennings asserted. “In my opinion, Dylan likely accepted the outcome. However, when one's parents publicly intervene and voice grievances on your behalf, it can portray you in a rather vulnerable light.”

Meanwhile, Meghan McCain argued that Dylan “ought not to have been scheduled on a program” with Jennings, joking that it was “essentially like bringing a knife to a gunfight.” The 41-year-old McCain stated the segment caused her immense discomfort, referring to herself as the “foremost example of a nepo baby.”

She remarked, “As a nepo baby, I was introduced to television far too prematurely. And notably, it was Paul Begala who thoroughly humbled me during my sole appearance on Bill Maher.”

“I've experienced a similar situation to Dylan Douglas,” McCain proceeded. “However, unlike his situation, my parents did not react with outrage. My father's advice was simply, 'Toughen up and proceed.'”

Dylan currently anchors SiriusXM’s “Young American with Dylan Douglas,” a political broadcast tailored for Generation Z.

Dylan commented, “I am enthusiastic to rejoin SiriusXM Progress. There's an abundance of pressing and significant discussions awaiting, and this is an ideal moment to return to this medium. ‘Young American’ transcends mere politics; it focuses on the individuals actively influencing our generation's trajectory. Now that the election is past, I eagerly anticipate engaging with the innovators who are instigating genuine advancement.”
