Selena Gomez's Mother Denies Drug Use Allegations at Wondermind Office
Mandy Teefey, the mother of Selena Gomez, faces allegations of drug use within her office at their co-founded Wondermind organization.
An investigative piece from The Cut, published on Wednesday, September 3, cited unnamed former staff members who asserted that Teefey, age 49, occasionally appeared under the influence during work hours. A specific account mentioned her allegedly snorting a substance presumed to be a “line of Ritalin.”
Meanwhile, other previous employees reported that various nurses frequently visited to administer vitamin IV infusions to Teefey, which purportedly contained liquid Benadryl. Teefey, it was said, explained to those present that these injections were necessary for her “allergies and the lingering effects of severe COVID and double pneumonia.”
“Staff members observed that Teefey’s speech became slurred and she appeared lethargic following these injections,” the report claims. “Concerns among employees grew when Teefey’s younger daughter would sometimes have sleepovers at the office.”
Selena Gomez's Personal Account of Her Mental Health Journey
Mandy is mother to Gracie, 12, with her husband Brian Teefey, and to Selena, 33, from her relationship with high school sweetheart, Ricardo Gomez.
Responding to Us Weekly, Mandy refuted the claim of snorting Ritalin at her workplace, unequivocally stating it “absolutely” did not occur.
“My motivation for founding Wondermind was to assist individuals facing mental health challenges,” she further commented. “It’s regrettable that a small number of dissatisfied former staff, harboring resentments, can disseminate falsehoods and misrepresent facts about me. What’s even more disheartening is the media’s readiness to propagate these untruths.”
One ex-employee indicated that Selena was reportedly cognizant of her mother’s difficulties.
“I can state this with complete conviction — without any doubt or hesitation,” the source informed The Cut. “Selena understood that her mother lacked the stability required to manage that organization.”
Selena has yet to publicly respond to these allegations. Us Weekly sought her commentary.
In 2022, Selena and Mandy launched Wondermind, a multimedia hub aimed at providing mental health assistance, in partnership with Daniella Pierson.
Selena Gomez's Mother Criticizes Investor Regarding Remark on Giving Birth to the Star
“Our ambition is for this to be the definitive resource for all facets of mental well-being. We’ve adopted a novel and inventive approach to how individuals can grasp and engage with a creative framework to illustrate that change is attainable,” Mandy stated previously. “Steering clear of clinical or prescriptive tones, we’ve achieved a harmony between learning, content, and introspection that genuinely fosters development.”
Within the same year, Selena elaborated on her rationale for becoming engaged in the initiative.
“Throughout my life, Princess Diana has been one of my inspirations, and it might sound trivial, but her authenticity and sincerity are what I aspire for this platform to embody,” she expressed in a May 2022 Wondermind newsletter interview. “A genuine, truthful, secure, and comforting space — a refuge for individuals. My greatest wish is for people to experience the same sentiment I do when contemplating our endeavors, and when connecting with others on our expert [advisory] panel and those who share our objectives and outlook.”
Subsequent to financial challenges, Wondermind downsized its workforce by 60 percent in May, as reported by Forbes.
“Wondermind is set to embark on a new phase in the near future,” a representative for the company informed the publication then, asserting that they had “resolved” all pending financial obligations.
