Sharon Osbourne Finds Solace in Love and Majestic Birds Following Ozzy's Passing
Sharon Osbourne is sharing her journey of grief following the passing of her husband, Ozzy Osbourne.
"It's still hard for me to articulate how thankful I am for the immense affection and solidarity displayed across social media. Your messages, uploads, and heartfelt homages have offered me immeasurable solace. Every single one has been seen, indeed, they've been my anchor through countless evenings," the 72-year-old Sharon posted on Instagram on Friday, September 12. Her message accompanied a video showing her and daughter, Kelly Osbourne, interacting with an owl.
"While I'm still adjusting, I wanted to introduce you to some magnificent beings I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with," she added in her update. "The bond formed with these majestic birds relies completely on mutual trust and assurance. They will only settle on you if they perceive you as secure and not fearful. It's a connection I understand deeply, and the moment felt truly enchanting."
Her heartfelt message ended with, "I cherish all of you, and I express my profound gratitude for the extraordinary outpouring of affection you keep sending."
On July 22, the family of Ozzy confirmed that the iconic rock star had passed away at 76.
"With sorrow beyond words, we must inform you that our cherished Ozzy Osbourne departed this morning," a family statement announced. "He was in the company of his loved ones, enveloped in affection. We request that everyone honor our family's privacy during this period. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis."
A Retrospective: Ozzy Osbourne's Journey from Black Sabbath to Family Man and Reality Television Figure
The legendary musician's death occurred in the very month he delivered his last performance with Black Sabbath — marking their first collective stage appearance in two decades. Ozzy appeared on stage, staying seated for much of his set due to his struggle with Parkinson's disease, a condition he publicly disclosed in 2020.
"Each morning brings a new challenge, another setback. You start to believe this struggle will be endless," Ozzy shared with The Guardian in a May interview, discussing the impact of his illness on his mobility.
Ozzy elaborated on his preparations for his farewell performance, stating, "I incorporate strength training [and] cycling; I have a trainer residing at my home who assists me. It’s demanding. I've been incapacitated for such an extended period. I've been inactive, and the initial thing to diminish is your physical power. It feels akin to commencing anew."
Ozzy's last concert achieved the distinction of being the highest-grossing charity event ever, amassing over $190 million for multiple charitable organizations.
A Chronicle of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne’s Enduring Relationship
Sharon stood beside her husband when he performed in July. The pair, united in marriage in 1982, had daughters Aimee, 41, Kelly, 40, and son Jack, 39. (Ozzy also had a daughter, Jessica, 51, and a son, Louis, 49, from his previous marriage to Thelma Riley.)
Navigating their relationship's public highs and lows, Sharon and Ozzy had a short separation in 2016 following reports of his affair with hairdresser Michelle Pugh. Sharon eventually pardoned Ozzy for his unfaithfulness later that same year.
“It’s not my place to speak on his behalf. I am aware he intends to appear on this program himself to address you all directly,” she stated on The Talk, a show she co-hosted then. “He believes he owes everyone present an apology for the distress he caused us. He is deeply mortified and penitent regarding his actions.”
Ozzy subsequently described his infidelity towards Sharon as one of his most “egregious” acts, telling GQ in 2020, “I regret being unfaithful to my wife. It’s not something I do any longer.”
He added: “I faced a stark realization, and I’m fortunate she didn’t abandon me. It’s not a point of pride. I was very upset with myself. Yet, I inflicted pain upon her heart.”
