Spencer Pratt, Reality TV Star, Announces Mayoral Run for Los Angeles
Reality television personality Spencer Pratt has announced his intention to run for mayor of Los Angeles.
“The current system in Los Angeles isn’t facing challenges, it’s fundamentally flawed,” Pratt, 42, stated at the “They Let Us Burn” public demonstration on Wednesday, January 7, as reported by the New York Post. “It is a structure designed to benefit those at the top and their associates through exchanging favors, while the rest of us suffer in toxic smoke and ash. Maintaining the status quo is a death sentence for Los Angeles, and I’m finished waiting for someone to take decisive action.”
Pratt continued, “That’s why I am entering the race for mayor. And let me be clear, this isn't just a campaign, it's a mission, and we’re going to expose the inner workings of the system.”
The Hills star revealed his candidacy on the first anniversary of the Palisades Fire, which resulted in the deaths of 12 people and destroyed over 6,800 homes near Pacific Palisades, California.

Pratt and his wife, Heidi Montag, experienced the loss of their home in the blaze and have subsequently become advocates for fire victims hoping to rebuild in the Los Angeles neighborhood. (Pratt’s parents, who lived nearby, also lost their home.)
Both Pratt and Montag were present at the “They Let Us Burn” rally, an event hosted by the Palisades Fire Residents Coalition described as a “peaceful, non-partisan public demonstration calling for accountability, transparency and meaningful reform in wildfire preparedness, emergency response, insurance recovery and environmental cleanup.”
According to Politico, Pratt declined to answer questions after he spoke at the rally, but showed a reporter photos of himself completing official campaign paperwork to confirm his candidacy.
Although fans initially knew Pratt from his time on MTV’s popular reality show The Hills, his focus in the past year has shifted away from reality television and towards fire recovery in the neighborhood where he was raising his children, Gunner and Ryker.
His Instagram and TikTok are primarily dedicated to investigating the causes of the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles. He has become a vocal critic of current Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and California Governor Gavin Newsom.
“It’s been one year since the most devastating day of our lives, but we’re still here fighting,” Pratt wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, January 6. “Join us this Wednesday January 7th as we demand fairness, accountability and a vision for the reconstruction of our town.”
In the days following the discovery that his house had burned down, Pratt attracted attention after requesting his TikTok followers to assist him in raising funds.
After his request for assistance via social media received some negative feedback, he decided to respond to the critics.

“Some demonic monster just posted on my IG and tagged me, ‘Of course Spencer’s going to exploit his burned down house for every dollar it’s worth.’ Absolutely. Indeed. That’s right. Let me figure out every dollar I can obtain,” Pratt said via TikTok in January 2025. “How can you people not possess intelligence? Are you simply the most unintelligent living beings? Naturally, I’m attempting to acquire money to pay for my life with my family because our house and all of our belongings were destroyed. And if I can accomplish it through social media, which I’ve been generating the only income I’ve earned for years consistently, showcasing my journey of our house burning down and all of our possessions, do you not think I’m going to continue to capitalize on it for every dollar?”
Pratt concluded, “I’d rather have my house and no social media, let me tell you that much. I’d rather have everything in my house and delete all these foolish apps. I would much rather that. So, yes, I will continue ‘capitalizing’ on our misfortune on social media.”
The 2026 Los Angeles mayoral election will be held on June 2, 2026. If no candidate secures a majority of the vote, a runoff election will be held on November 3, 2026.
