Survivor 50 Shakes Things Up With Celebrity Guest Stars
Celebrities share a love for Survivor, much like the show’s audience — and that shared passion has led to several famous personalities making appearances in Survivor 50.“Once we decided to let the fans shape the game’s design, the next question was: ‘How far could we take this concept?’" host Jeff Probst explained to Variety in an interview published on Monday, January 5. “We realized that some of Survivor’s most devoted enthusiasts are also well-known figures, so we thought integrating a few of them with their own unique elements would be a playful way to make the competition even more unpredictable!”Probst, 64, added that the milestone season’s celebrity guest spots “certainly surprised the contestants in some genuinely exciting ways, and contributed another dimension” to the challenge. In addition to the 24 players returning from previous seasons, Survivor 50 will feature appearances from a number of celebrities, as showcased in the December 2025 trailer. These stars include MrBeast, Jimmy Fallon, Zac Brown and Billie Eilish.‘Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans’ What to Know: Season 49 Returners and MoreAlthough the decision generated some criticism from viewers, Probst clarified how these cameos will be beneficial to the game.“I believe it’s a valid concern when you introduce elements like celebrities, that they could overshadow the core gameplay and divert attention. Our responsibility was to ensure that we remained true to what Survivor is all about, which is exploring this ongoing social experiment. And now we’re adding another layer,” he told the outlet.Probst continued, “When you include a celebrity like Zac Brown or MrBeast or Jimmy Fallon, you immediately introduce idolatry, and different perceptions and reputations. Suddenly, players might lose focus, or they might be eager to connect with Jimmy Fallon. Many of the contestants said, ‘I’ve always wanted to be in a MrBeast video.’ The twist is designed to see if you can maintain your strategic focus — or how will it alter your thought process, and will it ultimately lead to your downfall?”The long-time reality TV presenter also emphasized that these celebrities are genuine fans of the show, with some even suggesting ideas to be on the program themselves.“With Jimmy Fallon, it originated on his show. Jimmy frequently sends me ideas for Survivor, and we’ve incorporated some of them into the series, and we’ve often discussed this concept,” Probst concluded. “I think viewers will see, as these moments unfold, that these are authentic Survivor enthusiasts who wanted to be a part of 50.”Jeff Probst Explains Why He Doubled Over During 'Survivor 49' ChallengeSurvivor 50, which marks 25 years of the CBS competition, is themed “In the Hands of the Fans.” Viewers were given the opportunity to vote on what the season would entail, including the game’s twists, whether the finale is broadcast live or pre-recorded, and more.“I wanted it to be a gesture of gratitude to the fans because the entire reason we’ve lasted so long is their unwavering support,” Probst told Entertainment Weekly in February 2025 when voting began. “Even if they don’t always agree with every idea, they remain loyal.”Survivor 50 premieres on CBS Wednesday, February 25, at 8 p.m. ET.
