Susan Powter Comes Out as Completely Lesbian and Embraces a Hermit Lifestyle

Nineties fitness luminary Susan Powter experienced an absence of enduring romantic connections with men, prompting her current pursuit of female companionship.

“Presently, I identify as a significant lesbian. Completely lesbian, enjoying wonderful romantic engagements, numerous girlfriends, and immense enjoyment,” stated Powter, aged 67, during a discussion with Entertainment Weekly released on Wednesday, November 19. “The most enjoyable experiences of my life!”

Powter, renowned for her widely successful weight management infomercial Stop the Insanity!, had been married on two prior occasions. The erstwhile fitness guru exchanged vows with her former spouse Nic Villarreal in 1982, yet their marriage concluded in divorce in 1988 following claims of his infidelity. The separated couple are parents to two sons, Kiel and Damien. Subsequently, Powter married Lincoln Apeland in 1989, only to separate in 1995. By 1998, Powter welcomed her adopted son, Gabriel.

Approximately ten years following her second marital dissolution, Powter openly identified as a lesbian in 2004. Though she now embraces a more genuine representation of herself, she is not actively pursuing a romantic partnership.

“I no longer engage in dating, finding it incredibly bothersome,” Powter informed EW on Wednesday, further stating her “complete lack of desire to ever remarry.”

Powter disclosed that her most recent romantic involvement occurred “years prior,” as she favors a life of seclusion, characterizing herself as a “hermit.”

“I appreciate very extensive gatherings. I do not engage in social activities, nor do I maintain circles of friends,” she clarified. “I abstain from social interactions with anyone. I visit my sons occasionally; they are grown men.”

Powter has returned to public attention subsequent to the debut of her latest documentary, Stop the Insanity: Finding Susan Powter. Within the film, executive produced by Jamie Lee Curtis, Powter candidly discussed her difficulties relying on welfare benefits after the collapse of her health and fitness enterprise.

Powter achieved widespread recognition by recounting her personal narrative as a mother who experienced weight gain post-divorce, yet successfully lost the excess pounds and subsequently developed her fitness regimen. After the infomercial's triumph, Powter authored three highly successful books and hosted her own television series. She asserted having accumulated $200 million in earnings at the pinnacle of her celebrity.

Even as Powter pursued prosperity, her influential enterprise dissolved in 1995. Attributed to a succession of purportedly unfavorable business arrangements and legal actions, Powter found herself compelled to file for bankruptcy.

“Individuals are unaware. I receive no monetary compensation; its destination is unknown?” Powter expresses in her documentary. “I neglected to request, ‘Provide me with the bank statement.’ A lapse on my part.”

Currently, Powter resides in Las Vegas. Since 2016, she has been employed as a driver for Uber Eats.

“Throughout the last decade, I have undertaken a multitude of occupations,” she communicated to the camera during a delivery run. “I was immensely pleased to secure employment with Uber Eats.”

Powter admitted that she has no requirement for a substantial financial reserve. Rather, she desires fundamental essentials.

“My aspiration is sufficient funds to cover fundamental requirements and any unforeseen necessities,” Powter articulated. “Furthermore, I intend to acquire an RV. I won't use it for travel; instead, I plan to reside in trailer parks. There, I will set up internet access and engage online. That constitutes my ultimate ambition.”
