The actors appeared together in the 2023 rom-com Anyone But You, igniting speculation of a real-life romance during the film's promotional tour due to their apparent rapport. Shortly after images of them getting comfortable in swimwear while shooting a scene spread rapidly online, Powell and his former girlfriend, Gigi Paris, parted ways after a three-year relationship in April 2023.

Sweeney, meanwhile, has been betrothed to Jonathan Davino since 2022, and has consistently maintained the discretion of her romantic life. Despite the public's assumptions about Sweeney and Powell, an insider informed Us Weekly that the costars conducted themselves with complete professionalism during the filming of Anyone But You.

"It was an open secret they had grown very close," the source disclosed in May 2023, remarking that the rumors of an affair represented "a disastrous scenario" for Sweeney.

Months later, the Euphoria actress directly addressed the speculation, stating that she and Powell "don't really care" what people think. "We communicate all the time, saying, 'That's quite amusing,'" she conveyed to Variety in August 2023.

Their bond once again drew attention when Paris broke her silence in June 2025.

"I just desired respect, especially if it's going to be public," she shared on the "Too Much" podcast. "Like, don't make me look foolish. Just don't embarrass someone you've been with for over three years, talking about forever with. Just have some decency, you know?"

Paris continued: "And ultimately, it was like, well, work takes precedence. And if that's the case, more power to you; that's your priority. I have to move on. What was unpleasant was the manner in which it was handled. I felt like I was simply thrown to the wolves."

"The entire experience was truly remarkable," Sweeney expressed enthusiastically at CinemaCon about the filming. "It was incredibly enjoyable."

A source revealed to Us that Sweeney "values her reputation immensely," explaining that the affair speculation impacted her relationship with Davino.

When Powell shared photos from the intense shoot via Instagram, Sweeney quickly commented. "Just warming up everyone's winter, huh?" she wrote.

Powell spoke about how it was "very effortless" for him to "simulate" falling in love with Sweeney during the filming of Anyone But You.

"A fantastic rom-com cannot succeed without excellent chemistry, and Sydney is the easiest person to share chemistry with," he clarified to Entertainment Tonight. "I mean, immediately, it felt as though we had known each other forever, and I believe anyone who has been on set realizes I never grow tired of conversing with Sydney."

In addition to dismissing romance rumors during an appearance on Today, Powell attributed "all the credit" to Sweeney for instigating dating speculation in an interview with Business Insider. "I lack the mental capacity to execute anything like this, but she is very intelligent. She is very intelligent," he joked. "And look, Sydney and I genuinely possess authentic chemistry."

Sweeney playfully referenced her and Powell's affair rumors during her Saturday Night Live hosting monologue. "My fiancé and I co-produced the movie, and he was present throughout the entire shoot. I just want to assure everyone that he is the man of my dreams, and we are still together and stronger than ever," she declared.

Asking the camera to "cut to him," the camera turned to display Powell seated in the front row. "That's not my fiancé! He's in my dressing room!" she exclaimed.

Sweeney journeyed to Dallas, Texas, for Glen's younger sister Leslie Powell's wedding festivities, during which she was seen spending time with her former costar at a local eatery. The wedding celebrations occurred less than a week after a source exclusively told Us that Sweeney and Davino "called off" their plans for a spring 2025 wedding.

Another source, however, clarified to Us that Sweeney and Glen remained companions despite her personal relationship challenges. "There is no romantic involvement between Glen and Sydney. They are simply friends," the insider explained. "Sydney is close with the entire family."

The source added that Sweeney has "been long-standing friends" with Leslie and that she "brought one of her female friends to the wedding as a guest and had RSVP'd months prior."

Without explicitly naming them, Paris criticized Sweeney and Glen, adding, "Where are you when you just need to stand up and say, 'No, I would never betray my girlfriend. I wouldn't do that.' That's all that needed to be articulated. And that was not articulated. Never once. It served their public relations.
