Tatiana Schlossberg, JFK's granddaughter and acclaimed author, dies at 35 after battling leukemia.

Late President John F. Kennedy’s granddaughter Tatiana Schlossberg garnered significant attention after publicly sharing her health struggles.

Tatiana penned an essay for The New Yorker in November 2025, disclosing that she had received a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia. Medical professionals estimated that she had approximately one year remaining.

“I did not — could not — believe that they were discussing my situation. I had completed a mile-long swim in the pool the day prior, nine months pregnant. I wasn’t ill. I didn’t feel unwell. I was, in fact, among the healthiest individuals I knew,” Tatiana wrote. “I had a son whom I cherished above all else and a newborn I needed to care for.”

News of her diagnosis emerged several months after Tatiana welcomed her second child in May 2024. Physicians observed an irregularity in her white blood cell count before identifying that she possessed “a rare genetic alteration,” Inversion 3.

Initially, Tatiana was informed that she would require several months of chemotherapy and undergo a bone-marrow transplant. Doctors subsequently indicated that she would not be “healed by a conventional” course of therapies.

“Our beloved Tatiana passed away this morning,” the family communicated in a statement via Instagram. “She will forever remain in our hearts.”

The subsequent year, the book — and consequently Tatiana — received the Society of Environmental Journalists’ Rachel Carson Environment Book Award.
