Taylor Swift Donates $1 Million to American Heart Association After Father's Surgery
Taylor Swift has made a substantial donation, reportedly in the six figures, to the American Heart Association following her father Scott Swift’s surgery.
The American Heart Association announced in a press release on Tuesday, December 12, that Taylor’s personal contribution of $1 million was intended “to advance ongoing scientific research, bolster prevention and treatment initiatives, and expand access to life‑saving care for every community.”
“Taylor Swift’s extraordinary generosity will create a lasting impact far beyond its monetary value,” said Nancy Brown, chief executive officer of the American Heart Association, in the release. “Her family’s experience with cardiovascular disease is unfortunately common, affecting nearly half of American adults.”
The statement continued, “Her dedication to supporting her father will raise awareness of the importance of taking heart health seriously, strengthen preventative measures, and improve manageable risk factors—ultimately helping more people live longer, healthier lives.”

Brown noted that Taylor, 36, has “long been associated with the symbol of heart hands,” a gesture she is known for using during performances.
“At the American Heart Association, we proudly use that same gesture to honor all who have been affected—our mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, spouses and so many others. My hope is that together we can raise our collective heart hands and drive meaningful change against this disease, shaping a healthier future for generations to come,” Brown said.
Us Weekly confirmed in July that Scott, 73, was recovering after undergoing a heart procedure the previous month. Taylor and her brother, Austin Swift, as well as her mother, Andrea Swift, were providing support for Scott during his health journey and surgery, which occurred after a routine checkup, according to TMZ at the time.
The following month, Taylor discussed the surgery during an appearance on fiancé Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast.
Taylor Swift’s Close Relationship With Her Dad Scott Swift Through the Years
“My dad had a challenging summer. He actually underwent a quintuple bypass surgery, which is a very serious procedure,” she told Travis, 36, and brother Jason Kelce during the August episode.
Taylor explained that events unfolded “very quickly,” noting that Scott typically had “perfect EKG” results in his physicals over the years. However, after undergoing a resting stress test, doctors discovered five blockages and advised him to have the surgery.
“[Doctors said], ‘We need to do this tomorrow. We’re surprised you were able to walk in here,’” Taylor recalled, mentioning that the entire family was by Scott’s side. “We stayed with him for most of the summer. [He] couldn’t really walk on his own. We used a walking aid for my dad, helping him move around. He was, remarkably, the most pleasant patient ever. He kept expressing his gratitude repeatedly.”
In October, Taylor revealed that Scott is “doing remarkably well.”
“By his own assessment, he’s now at 150 percent. So he has a lot of energy. He’s doing wonderfully. I’m so happy,” she said during an appearance on SiriusXM’s “Morning Mash Up” at the time. “To put it in perspective, my dad had a quintuple bypass surgery over the summer.”
“The biggest part of our summer was, as a family, focusing on his care and helping him return to his former self,” she continued. “He received excellent medical care and support. I am eternally grateful for the doctors and nurses. It really puts things into perspective for you, honestly. It truly does. Thank you for mentioning that because it reminds me how fortunate I am that he recovered.”
