Taylor Swift Tearfully Addresses Fatal Children's Dance Class Stabbing in New Docuseries
Taylor Swift became emotional while discussing a fatal stabbing incident at a children’s dance class dedicated to her music, which she addressed in her End of an Era docuseries.
“It feels strange approaching these final five European performances,” Swift, 35, stated during the premiere episode before her Eras Tour residency at London’s Wembley Stadium. “We have completed approximately 128 shows to date, but this particular stretch feels precarious, as if I'm walking on thin ice. The tour has experienced a series of frightening and violent events recently.”
In August, Swift had to cancel three shows in Vienna, Austria, following the interception of a terror plot targeting the venue. The month before, multiple children in England lost their lives during a music class dedicated to Swift's work.
“These were small children,” Swift emotionally recounted in End of an Era. “I'm scheduled to meet some of these families this evening and then perform a pop concert. It needs to be okay because I won't [cry].”

The Southport Attack: Details of the Incident
On July 29, 2024, reports confirmed a stabbing incident at a dance and yoga class in Southport, England, themed around Swift's music. The attack resulted in the deaths of two children and critical injuries to nine additional minors. Two adults were also hospitalized due to their injuries.
“We believe the injured adults were acting courageously in an attempt to protect the children during the assault,” stated Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy in a press briefing. “As a mother of two daughters and a grandmother to a 5-year-old, I cannot possibly comprehend the anguish and distress currently being experienced by the victims' families, and I wish to convey our deepest condolences and sympathies.”

Taylor Swift Encounters Southport Survivors in ‘End of an Era’ Docuseries
In the Disney+ documentary, Swift became emotional while discussing the tragedy and explained her motivation for meeting the victims' families.
“I promise myself I won't [cry]. I need to keep smiling,” she expressed during a confessional segment. “You must compartmentalize this before going on stage. You shut it away. For three and a half hours, they shouldn't have to concern themselves with your feelings.”
Swift elaborated, "A performer is similar to a pilot navigating an aircraft. If you were to say, 'Oh, there's turbulence ahead. I'm not certain we can successfully land in Dallas. I will attempt my best, but I'm unsure if I can manage landing through this turbulence.' Everyone on board would panic. You are required to maintain a composed, serene, and collected demeanor."
Taylor Swift’s Initial Statement Following the Southport Attack
Swift released a public statement on social media on July 30, 2024.
“The sheer horror of the previous day's attack in Southport continues to overwhelm me; I am in total disbelief,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. “The tragic loss of life and innocence, alongside the severe trauma experienced by everyone present, including the families and first responders. These were merely small children participating in a dance class. I struggle completely to find words adequate to express my condolences to these families.”
The initial two episodes of End of an Era are currently available for streaming on Disney+.
