Tenisha Warner Honors Malcolm-Jamal Warner's Legacy with Foundation Launch
The identity of Malcolm-Jamal Warner's widow, Tenisha Warner, has now become public, as she spoke out about his untimely passing from several months ago.
On Friday, September 12, Tenisha posted a cheerful image on Instagram from her 2017 wedding to Malcolm-Jamal, who passed away in July following a drowning incident during a family holiday in Costa Rica. He was 54 years old at the time of his death.
“We are grateful for the immense love surrounding us during this sensitive period,” Tenisha expressed in her accompanying caption. “Our anniversary is tomorrow, and my heart is profoundly open. I am, for the very first time, offering a look into the affection that started everything.”
She further elaborated, “I can still recall my husband's laughter, still sense how he embraced every aspect of my being — every sorrow, every aspiration. Today, in tribute to him, my daughter and I are introducing River & Ember and formally inaugurating The Warner Family Foundation.”

Tenisha stated, “We are jointly continuing the legacy my husband and I initiated — a legacy dedicated to fostering the innate brilliance of children and empowering budding artists to express themselves without constraint. This represents love, persistently evolving. Continuously creating. Always propelling us onward.”
Within her update, Tenisha also shared a longer written declaration regarding the new venture, noting, “River & Ember emerged not solely from my background as a doctor of psychology, but also from my personal experience with sorrow and affection. Its essence lies in establishing enduring traditions — the sort our children will cherish as their inheritance.”
She further mentioned, “River & Ember originated from two fundamental principles: the constant current that propels us ahead, and the gentle warmth that sustains our inner vitality. My husband epitomized these qualities. His being was akin to a river — unwavering, dependable, and perpetually focused on what is significant.”
Malcolm-Jamal’s “essence was like an ember — radiant with inspiration, sparking potential in everyone he encountered. His perspective on life — that the inherent brilliance of children merits dedicated nurturing and unwavering attention — forms the core of all our endeavors.”

“He was the kind of person who’d say, ‘I need to leave, my daughter has her major event,’” Kelley recounted. “He was purely a father, completely dedicated to her, acting as her personal welcoming committee. I recall an evening when he mentioned, ‘Oh my, my daughter wishes to set up a tent tonight and sleep beneath the stars.’ His loved ones were the central focus of his existence.”
