Theresa Nist Reacts to Gerry Turner's Memoir Revealing Wedding Day Doubts
Theresa Nist expressed regret that ex-husband Gerry Turner didn't approach things differently, especially after discovering the former Golden Bachelor felt “confined” before their wedding.
“It deeply saddens me to consider that he experienced feelings of hollowness and entrapment,” Nist, 72, conveyed to Us Weekly in a private declaration. “I wish he would have communicated his feelings and simply called it off. However, now I at least comprehend the reason behind his frequent unkindness towards me. And I will add this: People who live in fragile circumstances shouldn't criticize others. I truly wish him every success.”
Turner, 74, reveals in his upcoming memoir, The Golden Years (releasing November 4), that he confided in second runner-up Faith Martin about feeling “cornered” before his televised nuptials with Nist. When questioned about his decision to proceed with the wedding, Turner clarified that he “believed [he] was making the correct choice.”
“I simply wasn't thrilled by it,” Turner elaborated in his Us digital cover feature. “A significant portion of the book details my emotions at particular junctures, and that represents only a fleeting reality… I experienced reservations, but I don't believe [they] were more intense than what anyone typically experiences.”
Theresa Nist Shares Her ‘Primary Concern’ Regarding Gerry Turner’s Memoir
Following their exchange of vows in January 2024, the couple disclosed their intention to separate on Good Morning America a few months afterward.
“Just before Theresa and I appeared on Good Morning America to declare our divorce, we made a pact to shield one another, and I don't believe that agreement was upheld,” Turner informed Us. “I felt as though I was bearing the full impact of the circumstance. And I thought, ‘No, hold on, that's incorrect. It's an equal shared responsibility.’”
Turner, who was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer last year, clarified that he aimed to present his perspective in his forthcoming memoir to rectify certain interpretations.
“Frankly speaking, there were specific impressions I wished to set straight,” Turner stated. “The recurring inquiry was, ‘Why are they divorcing so soon?’ And I felt, in my opinion, that I was portrayed as the antagonist.”
Theresa Nist Inquired of Former Husband Gerry Turner About the Contents of His Autobiography
Upon being asked if he was “concerned” about Nist reading the publication, Turner responded, “I am not concerned; I believe she ought to be concerned.”
“Everyone has aspirations in life. Everyone merits happiness. Therefore, I certainly extend the same wishes to her as I would to all the women and to myself, hoping she discovers her route to complete contentment,” he commented. “There is nothing amiss with pursuing a profession as she does — perhaps that is where she finds joy. And I believe that would be splendid. I merely wish I had been aware of that, if indeed it is true.”
After his separation from Nist, Turner has subsequently rekindled romance with Lana Sutton. The pair revealed their engagement earlier in the current month.
“For a considerable period, I maintained, ‘No, that will never come to pass,’” Turner divulged concerning remarrying. “Now that I have a partner who brings me such immense happiness, I can no longer refuse that possibility.”
The Golden Years will be available in stores starting November 4.
