Theron Gives Depp the Cold Shoulder at Dior Show Amid Amber Heard Fallout
Charlize Theron appeared less than enthusiastic about a potential encounter with her former The Astronaut’s Wife costar Johnny Depp, at least based on observations from Paris Fashion Week.
Both Theron, aged 50, and Depp, aged 62, attended the Dior presentation in Paris on Thursday, October 2. Footage from the occasion suggests Theron gave Depp a distinct cold shoulder while exchanging pleasantries with Brigitte Macron, spouse of French President Emmanuel Macron, and Bernard Arnault, LVMH's chief executive.
The video circulating on X that very day depicts a beaming Theron embracing Brigitte, 72, and Arnault, 76. Subsequently, she moves on, bypassing the actor entirely, even as Depp seemingly addresses her. Depp then observes Theron's departure.
Us Weekly contacted spokespersons for both Theron and Depp to request their statements.
Johnny Depp’s Former Spouse Supports Him, Labeling the Amber Heard Lawsuit ‘Completely Dreadful’
Theron and Depp shared the screen in the 1999 science fiction thriller The Astronaut’s Wife; however, it remains unknown whether their acquaintance evolved into a friendship in the subsequent years.
Numerous observers are interpreting Theron’s perceived slight as a deliberate statement regarding Depp’s widely publicized legal battle with his former wife, Amber Heard, and the subsequent public repercussions.
Depp and Heard, 39, were wed for a two-year period before their separation in 2017. Heard initiated divorce proceedings and sought a temporary restraining order, citing accusations of domestic abuse against Depp.
The actor refuted Heard’s allegations and subsequently took legal action against the British publication The Sun following a 2018 article that labeled him a “wife beater.” Depp eventually lost that particular court case, during which Heard detailed 14 separate occasions of alleged abuse.
By October 2020, a judge concluded that Heard’s assertions were “substantially true.”
Depp then initiated legal proceedings against Heard in the United States following her Washington Post opinion piece, which, though not naming him directly, alluded to their relationship. This subsequent televised legal drama became a viral topic across social media platforms for its duration.
Ultimately, the jury sided with Depp in June 2022, leading a judge to award the actor $10 million in compensatory damages and an additional $5 million in punitive damages. Heard, conversely, received $2 million in compensatory damages but no punitive damages.
“My disappointment today is immeasurable,” the actress conveyed in a statement to Us Weekly then. “It deeply saddens me that the overwhelming volume of evidence proved insufficient to counter the outsized power, influence, and persuasion wielded by my former husband.”
She further stated: “I am even more disheartened by the implications of this verdict for other women. It represents a regression. It transports us back to an era where a woman who dared to voice her truth could face public scorn and degradation.”
The Legal Battle Between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Explored Anew in Netflix Docuseries
After the trial, Heard relocated to Spain, where she is currently raising her three offspring. “Amber has no desire to raise a child in Hollywood,” an insider exclusively disclosed to Us Weekly in May 2024, noting that the celebrity “never favored the atmosphere” of Los Angeles. “She believes Madrid offers a more hospitable environment for her. She feels protected and stable, amidst a more supportive community there.”
Heard is the mother of her daughter Oonagh, aged 4, and twins Agnes and Ocean, who arrived in April 2025. She publicly shared the news of Agnes and Ocean’s birth a month subsequent to their arrival.
“Mother’s Day 2025 will be an occasion I shall forever cherish. This year, I am overjoyed to commemorate the finalization of the family unit I have aspired to create for years,” she posted on Instagram on May 11. “Today, I formally announce the arrival of twins into the Heard family.”
She concluded: “My daughter Agnes and my son Ocean are certainly occupying my time (and my affections).”
