Trump Reiterates Negative Comments Following Rob Reiner Murder

UPDATE — 12/15/25, 4:52 p.m. ET: Following the murder of director Rob Reiner at his residence on Sunday, December 14, President Donald Trump has reiterated his earlier negative remarks concerning Reiner.

During a media appearance on Monday, December 15, Trump, age 79, faced questioning from a journalist regarding whether he maintained his comments on Reiner, particularly since numerous Republican figures had criticized the president's statement.

“To be honest, I truly disliked him,” Trump responded. “In my opinion, he was a very unstable individual.”

Trump further claimed Reiner was “detrimental to the nation” due to his strong vocal opposition to the administration.

President Donald Trump addressed the fatal incident involving director Rob Reiner and his spouse, Michele Reiner, asserting that he understood the underlying cause behind the Hollywood couple's demise.

On Monday, December 15, just hours after Rob (78) and Michele (68) were discovered deceased within their Los Angeles estate, the 79-year-old Trump posted on his Truth Social account.

Trump's post stated: “A truly tragic event occurred in Hollywood last evening. Rob Reiner, a once highly skilled movie director and comedian who had become tormented and troubled, has died alongside his wife, Michele. The cause, reportedly, was the fury he incited in others because of his severe, persistent, and incurable condition known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, often shortened to TDS.”

He continued, “Reiner was known for infuriating people with his intense fixation on President Donald J. Trump. His evident paranoia peaked as the Trump Administration exceeded all expectations and targets for greatness, bringing about a Golden Age for America, potentially unparalleled in history.” The message concluded with, “May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”

As previously reported by Us, Rob and Michele were discovered dead in their residence on Sunday, December 14. A family representative issued a statement: “We announce the deeply sad and tragic deaths of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are devastated by this abrupt tragedy and request privacy during this extraordinarily painful period.”

According to TMZ, Rob and Michele sustained “wounds consistent with a knife attack,” and the Los Angeles Police Department has initiated an investigation into the incident.

The LAPD detained Rob and Michele’s son, Nick Reiner, who faces murder charges and is currently in custody. Nick had a long history of substance abuse issues. In 2016, he discussed with People magazine how he experienced homelessness for a significant time.

Nick, 32, recalled, “I had no permanent residence in Maine. I had no permanent residence in New Jersey. I had no permanent residence in Texas. I spent nights and weeks living on the streets. It was very difficult.”

“I encountered truly remarkable individuals there, completely outside my usual environment. Now, I have been back home for a long duration, gradually adjusting to life in L.A. and reuniting with my family. However, I went through many dark years,” Nick told the publication previously.

Obama, 64, continued: “Rob's accomplishments in film and television provided us with some of our most beloved screen narratives. Yet, underneath his creative work was a profound faith in human kindness—and a dedicated effort to actualize that conviction throughout his life. He and his wife led lives guided by meaningful intentions. They will be remembered for their advocacy of certain values and for inspiring countless individuals. We offer our most sincere sympathies to everyone who cared for them.”

Kathy Bates, who received an Oscar for her performance in Rob’s movie Misery, stated, “I truly admired Rob. He was intelligent and compassionate, an artist who produced films across various genres to push his own boundaries.”

Bates, 77, further remarked, “He fearlessly championed his political convictions. He significantly altered my life path. [Michele] was an exceptionally talented photographer. She captured my stunning promotional photos for the Misery campaign. I am heartbroken over their loss. My deepest sympathies go out to their family.”
