Vivian Wilson Defies Expectations, Finds Financial Independence Away From Tech Mogul Dad
Vivian Wilson, the daughter of tech titan Elon Musk, with whom she has a strained relationship, is speaking candidly about her financial situation.
“I stand on my own two feet financially,” the 21-year-old Wilson declared during her appearance at Teen Vogue’s 2025 Summit held on Saturday, September 20. “I'm earning an income these days. Before the Teen Vogue [cover feature], that wasn't the case. Many individuals hold preconceived notions, and one simply learns to manage those.”
Wilson had previously refuted speculations suggesting her personal affluence stemmed from being Musk's offspring during a September 2 conversation with The Cut, a division of New York Magazine.
“Individuals presume I possess significant funds. I don't command hundreds of thousands of dollars,” she clarified during that interview. “My mother is well-off, isn't she? However, the other parent, of course, boasts wealth on an inconceivably greater scale.”

She further disclosed that she presently resides with three housemates, a living arrangement that aids her in economizing.
“I harbor no ambition to become exceedingly wealthy,” she continued. “I am able to purchase food. I possess companionship, a place to live, and some discretionary funds, which is pleasant and a far luckier position than most of my contemporaries in Los Angeles.”
The emerging model and social media personality also confessed her lack of interest in the typical lavish lifestyle associated with celebrity, even though her renowned father appears to enjoy public attention.
“I don't excel at being well-known. It's an acquired ability. I struggled intensely for an extended period to be perceived as an ordinary individual,” Vivian further shared with The Cut. “There was a brief period, just prior to my rise to prominence, when my identity was unknown. It was wonderful. Everyone interacted with me as a normal person. I feel a certain longing for that, but I also appreciate being famous.”
“However, I value that it provides me with an income,” Vivian acknowledged. “I focus more on the encouragement I receive than the negativity, and that tends to balance it out. I encounter numerous disparaging comments directed at me. But what recourse do I truly have in such situations? My only real option is to move past it and adapt."
Elon, aged 54, was wedded to Wilson’s mother Justine Musk between 2000 and 2008, a period in which they became parents to six children. Besides Vivian, they are also parents to her 21-year-old twin sibling, Griffin, along with 19-year-old triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian. Their son Nevada tragically passed away from Sudden Infant Syndrome at just 10 weeks of age.

Wilson and Elon have maintained a distant relationship since at least 2020, coinciding with her public declaration of being transgender. (Musk often disseminates anti-transgender opinions across digital platforms.) Although she refrained from detailing the specific effects of their alienation on her domestic life, Wilson conveyed to The Cut, “I suffered from profoundly, intensely, extremely, unequivocally — I cannot adequately stress the magnitude of this declaration — utterly debilitating gender dysphoria.”
