'Wife Swap: Real Housewives Edition' Postponed After Wendy Osefo's ApprehensionEarlier this month, Wendy and Eddie gained significant media attention after being charged with insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, and providing false information to law enforcement, as indicated by court records acquired by Us Weekly.
They were processed in Westminster, Maryland, and subsequently released the next day, each having paid a $50,000 bond, a representative from the Carroll County Detention Center verified to Us.
“Dr. Wendy Osefo and her husband, Edward Osefo, have returned home safely to their family and are in good spirits,” a spokesperson for the couple stated to Us. “They appreciate the flood of concern and backing from their friends, supporters, and professional acquaintances. The Osefos, along with their legal counsel, anticipate their court appearance. Currently, they respectfully request privacy as they prioritize their family and the forthcoming legal proceedings.”
Twelve months prior, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office investigated a claimed break-in at Wendy and Eddie’s residence. Upon their return from a 2024 trip to Jamaica, the couple reported the theft of multiple luxury handbags and jewelry items.
Reasons John Oliver Believes 'RHOSLC' Is 'Among the Top Television Shows of Any Category'“A damaged screen was found resting on the roof, and the window was unsecured. Accessing or exiting that window required stepping on the toilet. The toilet seat was down and free of any debris. When law enforcement officers ascended to the roof and re-entered the house, they carried roof 'grit' back indoors,” the documents indicated.
The documents further explained, “The Osefos possessed an ADT security system and a Ring camera. The Osefos engaged the ADT alarm system before departing for their vacation. While they were absent, no movement was detected inside the dwelling. However, there was activity, such as parcel deliveries, recorded by the Ring camera, which the Osefos monitored remotely.”
At that time, Eddie submitted declarations to two different insurance providers concerning the purportedly stolen articles. Both he and Wendy signed these statements, reporting $2,500 in damages to their residence and $450,000 worth of property.
Following the reported break-in, Eddie added Wendy's gold diamond anniversary ring to the insurance claim. They subsequently received a $25,380 payout from Travelers Insurance. In a subsequent claim filed with Jewelers Mutual Insurance, neither Wendy's gold diamond anniversary ring nor the Travelers Insurance settlement was referenced.
Law enforcement officials reportedly observed pictures of Wendy wearing the ring that was supposedly stolen subsequent to the reported burglary. A search and seizure warrant executed at their home revealed that at least 15 items Wendy and Eddie had declared as stolen were actually present in the residence. According to documents obtained by Us, the inquiry determined that the couple was reportedly “heavily burdened by debt.”
