William's Royal Reckoning: Navigating Andrew's Shadow Upon Ascension
With Prince Andrew frequently in the news due to his enduring connection with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, commentators are discussing how his nephew, Prince William, might address the persistent controversy upon his ascension to the throne.
“He’s absolutely fed up with his Uncle Andrew,” royal commentator Christopher Andersen revealed exclusively to Us Weekly, in the wake of a Monday, October 20, article by Tom Sykes for The Royalist, which suggested that William, 43, intends to remove the HRH and princely titles from non-working royals — a category that includes his brother, Prince Harry, and his controversial uncle.
According to The Royalist, an associate of William's reportedly stated that the Prince of Wales "will not hesitate to advance" in matters concerning these titles.
“Indeed, an Act of Parliament would be necessary to officially divest Andrew of his princely title, and the same applies to Harry,” Andersen proceeded, adding that it “could prove complicated” for William to strip either Andrew or Harry of their titles.
“I struggle to envision William initiating such a measure against his own sibling, regardless of his frustrations with Harry,” Andersen further noted.
An Expert Suggests Princess Anne Has Grown Weary of Prince Andrew Amidst Controversies
Nevertheless, the prospect of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie losing their titles presents an entirely distinct scenario, as their status is tied "directly" to Andrew. Andersen pointed out that the offspring of Princess Anne and Prince Edward have "never" adopted prince or princess titles, despite being "equally entitled" to them. This stands in contrast to their royal cousins.
“Some years ago, Charles, mindful of expenses, suggested reducing their rank from Princesses to Ladies and removing them from the royal stipend as part of his strategy to streamline the monarchy,” Andersen recounted. “Despite William’s enduring affection for his cousins Beatrice and Eugenie, it’s plausible he might contemplate a similar course of action.”
Us Weekly contacted Buckingham Palace seeking a statement.
The article from The Royalist was published just days after Andrew declared on Friday, October 17, his decision to relinquish his royal title, as his past association with Epstein remains a prominent news topic.
“Following conversations with The King and my immediate and extended family, we have determined that the ongoing allegations against me divert attention from the duties of His Majesty and the Royal Family,” Andrew conveyed in a statement to Us. “I have chosen, as I consistently have, to prioritize my obligation to my family and nation. I uphold my choice from five years ago to withdraw from public engagements.”

He concluded: “With His Majesty’s consent, we believe I must now take an additional measure. Consequently, I will cease to employ my title or the accolades previously bestowed upon me. As I have stated before, I vehemently refute the allegations made against me.”
In 2019, Andrew faced accusations of a sexual encounter with the late Virginia Giuffre in 2001, when she was a minor, claims he has persistently refuted. Giuffre filed a lawsuit against Andrew for sexual abuse in 2021, leading to an out-of-court settlement for an undisclosed sum. Tragically, Giuffre passed away at 41 by suicide earlier this year.
Following her demise, correspondence from 2011 between Andrew and Epstein has re-emerged. Andrew had previously asserted that he severed ties with Epstein in late 2010.
“For a long time, Prince William has been pressing his father, the King, to address the situation with Andrew,” Andersen informed Us in a distinct conversation last week. “The Epstein sex abuse scandal shows no sign of disappearing — the royal family is apprehensive, anticipating further revelations once all documents are made public.”
