Yung Gravy Recalls Meeting Shania Twain Before Knowing Her Fame and Collaborating on Music
While many of us would be starstruck meeting Shania Twain socially, rapper Yung Gravy claims his initial introduction to the country superstar was due to her seeming “accessible.”
“I've encountered many individuals before fully grasping their immense fame or skill,” the 29-year-old Yung Gravy disclosed to Us Weekly during a special interview for his Urban Outfitters Good Game campaign. “Shania Twain serves as an illustration. I spotted her at a Grammys event, and she simply appeared easy to approach. My public persona has always leaned towards the ‘MILF’ archetype, and she seemed to align with that, yet I had no idea who she was.”
He added: “As we conversed, her identity slowly clicked for me, given her frequent changes in hair color, which I hadn't even noticed. We quickly developed a good rapport, and I believe she appreciated that aspect significantly. That's the reason our bond grew so strong, leading to me even staying at her residence.”
The artist garnered attention in 2022 by escorting Addison Rae’s mother, Sheri Easterling, to the MTV Video Music Awards, explaining his attraction to mature women to Entertainment Tonight then: “They possess greater experience, represent what I'd describe as an underserved demographic, and warrant increased recognition.”

Twain, now 60, certainly meets the requirements, being the mother of Eja D'Angelo Lange, born in 2001 to her then-spouse Robert “Mutt” Lange. However, Yung Gravy clarified he didn't pursue her romantically since she is in a committed relationship.
“Her husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, would join us, and he and I formed a pleasant connection as well,” the “I Write Hymns Not Travesties” vocalist informed Us. “He hails from Switzerland, and his background parallels my father's, so we found common ground there.”
He further stated: “Fred's a great guy. Shania and I composed roughly six tracks jointly, but we included only one on the album [“White Claw” from 2024’s Serving Country]. She wished to save another for her upcoming work. And then there are a few others we decided to keep private for now, so you might encounter them later.”
Although he had put out a country rap track in 2019, Yung Gravy wholeheartedly adopted the style following his friendships with Hardy, Morgan Wallen, and Twain, with Twain specifically acting as his guide.
“She assisted me in comprehending the country music scene,” he relayed to Us regarding his connection with the “You’re Still the One” artist. “The fundamentals of music, such as singing and playing guitar, and all those elements I hadn't truly grasped as a rapper, she guided me through, which was quite remarkable to have a highly skilled vocal instructor.”

Currently, Yung Gravy has returned to his hip-hop origins, kicking off his Voluptuous Voyage tour this autumn, alongside college performances scheduled for the Good Game campaign.
“I've consistently favored Urban Outfitters since they were the initial physical retail establishment to stock my vinyl, which was quite neat, a long time ago,” he shared with Us about his affection for the company. “I used to enter, purchase my own vinyl, observe the staff, and attempt to elicit enthusiasm or an odd reaction from them... hence, agreeing to this was effortless.”
The initiative, designed to honor the vibrancy of university game-day traditions, includes college-themed sections in 23 stores located near campuses and various interactive events, along with prize giveaways, mascot visits, temporary game-day stalls, and concerts by artists such as Yung Gravy, perfectly timed for the commencement of the academic year.
