Armani to be laid to rest in family plot as Milan mourns fashion icon
Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani, who passed away at the age of 91 on Thursday, will be interred on Monday in a private family ceremony. The burial is scheduled to take place in Rivalta, a medieval village situated south of Milan, a location chosen as his mother is also interred there. Local officials and the regional association for castles confirmed the details on Sunday, adding that security will be deployed to ensure the privacy of the funeral, which is set for mid-afternoon.
In the days leading up to the private burial, thousands of admirers and colleagues filed past Armani's coffin over the weekend. The casket was on display next to the headquarters of his multi-billion-euro lifestyle company in Milan, allowing the public to pay their final respects to the iconic designer.
Further demonstrating the profound impact of Armani's legacy, Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala announced a day of mourning for the city on Monday. As a mark of respect, the Armani company has also stated that its shops across Italy will close on Monday afternoon.
