Asak&Co Resurfaces with Exclusive Vionic Distribution Deal After Clarks Departure

Asak&Co, a prominent Bussolengo-based company established in 1992 by sisters Barbara and Sonia Dalla Rosa, has recently secured a significant distribution agreement. The company has been awarded the exclusive distribution rights on the Italian market for Vionic, a renowned men's and women's footwear brand. Vionic is owned by Caleres, a formidable US-based group valued at $3 billion, which notably acquired Stuart Weitzman from Tapestry earlier this year, marking a strategic move in its brand portfolio expansion.

The journey to this new partnership follows a pivotal moment in Asak&Co's history. Barbara Dalla Rosa, speaking at Micam 100, elaborated on the company's roots: "Our company was established to distribute the Clarks brand in Italy, with which we collaborated for 33 years until the beginning of this year." This long-standing relationship concluded when Clarks' new ownership, the Hong Kong fund LionRock Capital which acquired the brand in 2021, initiated a comprehensive reorganization of its distribution network. Faced with this substantial change, Barbara and Sonia Dalla Rosa made a resolute decision: "My sister and I could have simply closed the company and retired, but we thought about our employees and decided to roll up our sleeves and start again."

Their strategic restart involved an immediate and decisive pivot in their retail operations. As a crucial first step, the two businesswomen initiated the conversion of 16 of their 20 single-brand stores, previously operating under the Clarks banner, into Camper stores through a new franchise agreement. The remaining four stores, along with two outlet spaces strategically located in Barberino and Valmontone, were rebranded as multi-brand Asak 25 stores. This new name symbolically combines the company's identity with the year of their energetic restart, signifying a fresh chapter.

The new direction quickly attracted attention, leading to the pivotal Vionic partnership. Dalla Rosa further explained, "We were later contacted by Caleres, who proposed to us the Italian distribution of Vionic, a brand founded in Australia in 1991 and then moved to California." Vionic, having successfully established its presence in Europe some years prior, was now actively seeking to firmly position itself within the Italian market, recognizing its strategic importance in the fashion and footwear industry. This alignment of goals set the stage for a promising collaboration.

Asak&Co has already commenced a test phase for Vionic with the Spring/Summer 2025 collection, which has been introduced within their newly converted stores and in selected retail outlets. Looking ahead, the first full-scale launch with the Spring/Summer 2026 collection marks an ambitious target. "With the S/S 2026, the first season in full swing, we aim to reach about 250 stores, mainly footwear specialists selling products in line with Vionic's characteristics," Dalla Rosa articulated. This strategy focuses on retailers who appreciate the unique blend of wellness and style that Vionic offers, ensuring the brand reaches its ideal consumer base.

Vionic's distinct appeal lies in its innovative product design, which seamlessly integrates advanced biomechanical principles with contemporary aesthetics. Each product is engineered with unique alignment technology, meticulously crafted to balance the entire body, leading to improved posture and enhanced stability, all without compromising on fashion appeal. Building on its exceptional know-how derived from the orthopedic industry, Vionic has pioneered Vio-Motion Technology. This patented system is designed to optimize the body's natural movement, promoting overall daily well-being and ensuring comfort with every step.

The construction of each Vionic model embodies a sophisticated synergy of form and function. They combine robust biomechanical support, precise heel stabilization, and energy-returning materials. This results in cohesive collections that masterfully merge performance capabilities with a desirable lifestyle aesthetic, high-quality materials, and ergonomic design. It's a perfect synthesis of rigorous scientific research and acute fashion sensibility, offering consumers footwear that not only looks good but actively contributes to their foot health and overall comfort.

Despite its advanced technology and premium construction, Vionic maintains an accessible price point, typically around 150 euros for consumers. Dalla Rosa emphasized, "Vionic products are crafted with high-quality materials, almost all sourced from Italy, yet they maintain an accessible price point." Furthermore, the brand's commitment to well-being is underscored by its design philosophy: "They are shoes designed by orthopedists, physiatrists, and chiropractors and are registered as medical devices in both America and Europe, although with a taste and aesthetic aligned with current trends." This unique combination of medical endorsement and fashionable design positions Vionic as a compelling offering in the Italian footwear market.
