Boden Opens First US Store Celebrating British Charm and Holiday Cheer
Quintessentially British lifestyle brand Boden has officially marked a significant milestone in its US growth strategy, unveiling its very first standalone physical store in the United States. Despite its immense popularity and a robust digital presence among American consumers for 23 years, dating back to its online launch in 2002, this brick-and-mortar debut at Avalon in Alpharetta, Georgia, represents a pivotal expansion for the brand.
The new 2,000-square-foot retail space, located at 5165 Avalon Boulevard, is designed to offer a dynamic shopping experience. It will feature monthly curated edits of its popular womenswear collections. For its grand opening this month, the store is highlighting a festive assortment, including sophisticated partywear, cozy festive knitwear, elegant tailoring, and eye-catching statement coats, perfectly timed for the holiday season.
Beyond the curated collections, the store's interior is a celebration of British artistry and Boden's heritage. Shoppers will encounter a bespoke chandelier, custom-commissioned in collaboration with British design house Richard Taylor Designs and meticulously handmade in Italy. A unique gallery-style exhibition showcases iconic British figures personally selected by founder and Chief Creative Officer, Johnnie Boden. Throughout the space, illustrations by British artist Charlotte Farmer adorn the walls, with a standout piece at the entrance charting Boden’s journey from a 1991 mail-order startup to a globally recognized name. The fitting rooms offer an immersive experience, adorned with bespoke Boden wallpaper created from a collage of archival and recent brand photography.
Embracing the festive spirit, the store is beautifully decorated for Christmas. Custom Christmas trees are adorned with handmade striped baubles by the renowned British pottery brand Cornishware, while charming seasonal wreaths, crafted by talented local florist Anik Collective, add a touch of community flair to the British aesthetic.
The launch week is packed with celebratory events designed to welcome both media and customers. Festivities commenced with an exclusive event for local media and creators, offering a sneak peek inside the new store. This will be followed by a special VIP customer shopping evening on November 23rd, complete with festive refreshments served from a distinctive vintage Boden Routemaster bus, adding an extra touch of British charm. Katherine Danneberg, Boden’s Commercial Chief, expressed the brand’s enthusiasm, stating that the "American customer has embraced Boden with such warmth and enthusiasm over the years, so it feels like the right moment to bring our brand to life in a physical space."
Boden's strategic move into physical retail builds upon an already strong foundation in the US market. Since its digital inception in 2002, the brand has grown to become the second-largest British premium clothing brand in the country, boasting an impressive 1.7 million active customers worldwide. This physical presence aims to deepen customer engagement and further solidify its position in the American retail landscape.
