Carbios Secures €72 Million Cash Boost to Launch First Industrial Plant Amidst Favorable Regulations

Carbios, the French pioneer in the enzymatic recycling of plastics and synthetic fibers, has confirmed a robust cash position of €72 million. This strong financial standing solidifies the company's ambitious plans to commence construction of its inaugural industrial plant by the end of the current year. The facility, strategically located in Longlaville within France’s Lorraine region, represents a significant step forward, following earlier delays in the project timeline.

The development of this crucial plant is being funded through a strategic blend of Carbios's internal resources and substantial external contributions, including €42.5 million from ADEME (France’s energy transition agency) and the regional authority. Despite navigating a challenging start to the year, which included a redundancy plan, Carbios has maintained its operational momentum, actively securing raw material supplies and initiating pre-sales for its future production output. This progress is further bolstered by a highly favorable regulatory environment.

A recent regulatory development provides a powerful incentive for the adoption of Carbios's innovative technology. The company highlighted that the decree published on September 7, 2025, concerning the bonus for incorporating recycled material, acts as a significant catalyst. This decree offers a substantial incentive of €1,000 per tonne for customers utilizing bio-recycled plastics derived from hard-to-recycle waste, thereby accelerating the integration of Carbios’s solutions into various industries.

Beyond its domestic plant, Carbios continues to expand its global footprint through the licensing of its proprietary technology. The company has already forged agreements for future deployments with manufacturing partners in key international markets, including China, Turkey, and the United Kingdom, indicating a strong global interest in its sustainable solutions.

Vincent Kamel, Managing Director of Carbios, expressed confidence in the company's strategic direction. He stated, "Our control of spending and our cash position enable us to move forward with confidence. Recent favorable developments, both on the regulatory front and in our discussions with financial and industrial partners, reinforce our trajectory. We are approaching this phase with determination and confidence, buoyed by our customers’ recognition of our technology, the solidity of our model, and the commitment of our teams."

The forthcoming Longlaville plant is poised to be a pivotal milestone for Carbios, marking the industrial-scale implementation of its groundbreaking PET (polyethylene terephthalate) enzymatic depolymerization process. Once fully operational, the site will possess an impressive capacity to transform the equivalent of 300 million T-shirts, composed of at least 90% synthetic materials, or two billion colored bottles, into virgin-quality PET, demonstrating a remarkable contribution to circular economy principles.

In a testament to the commercial viability and demand for its recycled products, Carbios earlier this year formalized a commercial agreement to supply recycled plastics to leading beauty brands, L'Oréal and L'Occitane en Provence. These recycled materials are earmarked for use in bottles and packaging, signaling a growing industry commitment to sustainable practices and the integration of Carbios's innovative solutions into consumer products.
