Cash Converters expands in Portugal with new Amadora store fueled by strong second-hand market growth.

Cash Converters, the multinational Australian brand specializing in the purchase and sale of second-hand items, has recently expanded its presence in Portugal with a new store opening at the UBBO shopping center in Amadora. Founded in Perth, Australia, in 1984 by Brian Cumins, the company established its operations in Portugal in 2003. The new unit covers 72 square meters and introduces an updated concept that broadens categories, placing a special emphasis on unique pieces, collectors' items, and discontinued products, giving them a renewed purpose.

This expansion marks the sixth opening in the Portuguese market for Cash Converters, bringing its total footprint across the Iberian Peninsula to 83 stores. The new UBBO store highlights second-hand luxury items, including watches, bags, and jewelry from prominent brands. Additionally, it features a dedicated area for the exclusive "Jewellery with a Soul" collection, which Cash Converters created using 100% recycled gold, targeting customers who value items with history and identity. Customers will also find various other product categories, such as IT, TV and audio equipment, consoles and video games, photography and video, sports gear, DIY tools, and small domestic appliances.

According to Francisco Parra, CEO of Cash Converters in Spain and Portugal, the move reflects strong market dynamics. "The Portuguese market has shown a clear commitment to buying and selling second-hand products, and the results bear this out," Parra stated. He highlighted significant growth figures, noting that in 2025, the average monthly number of items purchased in Portuguese stores grew by 9% compared to the previous year, while the average ticket size increased by 12%. These indicators reinforce Cash Converters' expansion strategy in the country for the coming years, aimed at increasingly connecting people to the circular economy through high-quality products.

The arrival of the Australian chain at UBBO, which operates both physical stores in Lisbon and Porto and an official online store, reinforces the company's commitment to democratizing sustainable consumption in Portugal and valuing objects that warrant continued use and appreciation. In addition to the new location in Pontinha (Greater Lisbon), the brand operates physical stores at Rua Pinheiro Chagas, 101B, Rua José Rodrigues Migueis, 1, and Rua António Pereira Carrilho, 5 in central Lisbon; Rua Quinta do Paizinho, 2 in Alfragide/Carnaxide; and Rua de Fernandes Tomás, 432 in downtown Porto. This network expansion is part of a strategy focused on proximity and convenience for customers throughout the region.
