CCC Slashes Financial Forecasts Amidst Challenging Environment and Missed Expectations

Polish footwear and fashion retailer CCC announced a significant downward revision of its annual financial forecasts following preliminary third-quarter results that fell short of market expectations. This news led to an immediate negative reaction from investors, with the company's shares experiencing an 8.5% decline in early trading on Friday. CCC, a prominent player in the retail sector, operates its namesake chain of shoe stores, alongside the online fashion platform Modivo and the off-price retail outlet HalfPrice, catering to a broad customer base across various segments.

The revised outlook for 2025 indicates a considerable adjustment to previously optimistic projections. CCC now anticipates revenue to be in the range of 11.3 billion to 11.5 billion zlotys, a notable reduction from its earlier guidance of more than 12 billion zlotys. Concurrently, the forecast for earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) has also been scaled back, moving from a prior estimate of 2.4 billion zlotys to a new range of 1.7 billion to 1.8 billion zlotys, reflecting a more cautious stance on future profitability.

Several factors have been cited by the company for this outlook revision, collectively pointing to a "challenging business environment." A key contributing element has been the unfavourable weather conditions experienced for the majority of the year, which significantly impacted footwear sales. Chief Executive Dariusz Milek elaborated on this, stating in a press release, "We recorded weak sales dynamics in September, which was an exceptionally warm month, and social anxiety related to the geopolitical situation also intensified at that time." This combination of external pressures evidently dampened consumer spending and demand.

Beyond the weather and geopolitical concerns, CCC also highlighted internal operational issues that contributed to the revised forecasts. The company noted higher one-off costs stemming from its faster-than-planned retail expansion initiatives. Furthermore, delays in the opening of new stores meant that these locations had a shorter period than anticipated to contribute to overall sales, thereby impacting the expected revenue generation from the expanded retail footprint.

The preliminary third-quarter results underscore these challenges, with key figures missing analyst predictions. CCC reported preliminary revenue of 2.97 billion zlotys for the quarter, falling short of the 3.03 billion zlotys forecast in a Reuters poll. Similarly, the company’s core profit, recorded at 404 million zlotys, did not meet analysts’ expectations of 483 million zlotys, solidifying the basis for the more conservative financial outlook moving forward.
