Celine opens opulent first Austrian store on Vienna's Kohlmarkt
Celine has marked a significant milestone, opening its inaugural store in Austria, a first for the Alpine republic. This new luxury boutique is strategically located on the prestigious Kohlmarkt in the heart of Vienna, signalling the French fashion house's commitment to strengthening its presence in German-speaking markets. This move follows the successful debut of its first standalone store in Germany, which opened in Munich in 2017, and comes after significant attention drawn by Michael Rider's recent collection debut.
The exquisite Vienna flagship spans three opulent storeys and covers an expansive 150 square metres. It is designed to immerse visitors in the complete Celine universe, showcasing the latest womenswear and menswear collections, beauty products, fragrances, and exclusive Maison pieces. From the exterior, the boutique commands attention with its stunning listed façade of intricately sculpted marble, beautifully complemented by large, dark-framed, floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a glimpse into the luxurious interior.
Inside, an atmosphere of refined elegance is created through the predominant use of natural stone. Materials such as Grand Antique marble are meticulously combined with travertine, while Basaltina flooring, laid in a sophisticated French-inspired chevron pattern, runs throughout the store. The sense of luxury is further elevated by the incorporation of ultra-clear mirrors—some finished with an antique gold effect—alongside strategically placed neon lighting and polished metal accents, adding a contemporary edge to the classic design.
The ground floor is dedicated to the world of womenswear, thoughtfully arranged to guide clients through the collections. It begins with an alluring display of accessories, followed by signature leather goods, beauty products, and an array of fragrances, culminating in the ready-to-wear area. This considered layout ensures a seamless and captivating shopping experience for patrons exploring Celine's diverse offerings.
A striking staircase with minimalist, cantilevered steps serves as an architectural feature, leading guests to the first floor where the comprehensive menswear collections are elegantly presented. In contrast to the lighter palette of other areas, the menswear section adopts a darker, more masculine aesthetic, featuring sophisticated black-lacquered walls and a curated selection of timbers that provide rich visual depth and a distinct atmosphere.
Expanding the store's intimate offerings, a secluded salon is located on the second floor, exclusively accessible via a private lift. This private space includes an enlarged fitting room, designed to provide an unparalleled level of privacy and personalized service, further enhancing the bespoke shopping experience for Celine's discerning clientele.
Throughout the store's various lounge areas, a curated blend of vintage and contemporary furnishings creates inviting spaces for relaxation and contemplation. In line with the ongoing Celine Art Project, the boutique also hosts a remarkable selection of artworks. These include a captivating stoneware composition by Anders Hald, an expressive painting by Jasmine Gregory, and thought-provoking sculptures by Rosalind Tallmadge and Marcelo Silveira, each piece thoughtfully integrated to enrich the store's luxurious ambiance.
