Clare Byrne Appointed i-D's New Global Fashion Director Under Karlie Kloss's Bedford Media
i-D Magazine, under the umbrella of Karlie Kloss’s Bedford Media, has officially announced the appointment of Clare Byrne as its new global fashion director, effective immediately. This significant move sees Byrne stepping into a pivotal role within the renowned fashion publication, reporting directly to editor-in-chief and chief brand officer Thom Bettridge.
Byrne takes the reins from a distinguished line of predecessors who have shaped i-D's visual identity, including Carlos Nazario, Alastair McKimm, and Julia Sarr-Jamois. Notably, she also follows in the footsteps of Edward Enninful, who held the global fashion director position for two decades until 2011, leaving a lasting legacy.
Operating between the fashion capitals of New York and Europe, Byrne is celebrated for her distinctive and intuitive approach to visual storytelling. Her work is often characterized by a vibrant interplay of color, a clever sense of humor, and a highly refined sense of composition, promising a fresh and engaging direction for i-D’s fashion narratives.
Prior to this appointment, Byrne served as the fashion director at The Travel Almanac. During her tenure there, she was instrumental in integrating a unique fashion perspective and significantly elevating the caliber of contributors and subjects. Her efforts led to features with an impressive roster of talents, including Grimes, A$AP Rocky, Arca, and Anohni.
Her extensive portfolio showcases a broad range of high-profile styling work that has graced the pages of numerous prestigious publications. These include Pop, M Le Monde, Vogue, W Magazine, Fantastic Man, Double, and i-D itself. Notably, she recently contributed to i-D's relaunch issue earlier this year, working on the captivating ‘Unknown’ cover story alongside Ezra Khoury.
Beyond editorial work, Byrne also provides her expertise in styling and consulting for a distinguished list of luxury brands such as Heaven, Marc Jacobs, Chanel, Dior, Hermès, Calvin Klein, Tiffany & Co, and MAC. Her career further highlights close collaborations with an array of major-name photographers and directors, including industry luminaries like Inez & Vinoodh, Roe Ethridge, Craig McDean, Aidan Zamiri, Willy Vanderperre, Charlotte Wales, Collier Schorr, Theo De Gueltzl, and Ethan James Green, underscoring her widespread influence and respect within the fashion community.
